Damn, we've got a 3.5 game lead now. Reds have lost six in a row. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch of ****ing punks.

I hate hate HATE watching baseball in that damn stadium.
Sorry Buck, but Petco is as big a joke as Enron is. That stupid stadium just ruins pitching. It's not like they have this roster of elite talents, they just know they can run a ball up there at 93 mph, get it a bit above the waste and let guys blast it to CF...where flyballs go to die. It doesn't take any discernible skill to pitch there, just the ability to throw hard(ish) and up in the zone so guys will get themselves out. Last night was just 2-seamer after 2-seamer with the knowledge that even if one gets scalded, its very likely to be no worse than a double. The only way to really blast one out is if somebody gets one inside and elevated, so both staffs tend to hammer the outside corner...well until they fall behind that is. Then they just elevate another one down the middle so it's another fly-ball to CF. The last out of the game was a 2r HR anywhere else. Albert hit another one that should've gone out. That stadium just makes games boring as all hell. I watch pitchers with little real appreciation for their performance (afterall, there were another 5 - 7 ERs worth of balls that just died out there). And there's no offensive spark to make up for it. It's just a horrible horrible ballpark for baseball. I don't care if it's pretty (though I was underwhelmed by it when I went last year). I don't care if its amenities are fantastic (though you don't have beer guys in the seats so it takes an hour to get a !@#$ing hot dog). The bottom line is that it is a shitty shitty stadium for the game of baseball. This series can't get over fast enough. Night games at Petco are great excuses for going to bed early. |

It's not the lack of HRs that bothers me - it's the lack of even a real fear of HRs.
Just throw it hard, up and away and guys will be unable to do anything with it in that park. In any other park they can still muscle that pitch over the wall so pitchers have to do more to get outs. The fear of that pitch getting bombed means they can't just lean on the high fastball over and over again. They have to polish off the breaking stuff more (which hangs for doubles into the gaps, etc...); they have to come inside more to get guys inside conscious (leading to pitches which don't get far enough inside and get driven down the line). They simply have to pitch better to get outs. It makes every facet of the game, from the offense down to the strategy involved, better. It's like watching a 1920s mushball game. It's like playing Madden on rookie level. There's just not a hell of a lot of sport to those games and it becomes a matter of luck and timing. I freakin' hate that park. |
Feels like deja vu.

Frazod is right - fix your !@#$ing stadium. |
I like the park. but i love good pitching so i like the park because it gives almost every game the illusion of good pitching

Well, unless you like seeing guys throw a lot of 93 mph fastballs just a hair above the belt and generally on the outer 1/3. |

BigRedChief I like your future line up in the header just now noticed it. Wish in that leadoff shortstop we could put Jose Reyes. if they could land him at SS Descalso at 2b with freese at third and somehow resign Pujols.
That would make a very dangerous line up but I don't think money wise it makes sense. If i were the F/O I would be trying to deal Carpenter this year for some prospects. I think he's prob. started to decline anyway and with Waino coming back next year and Miller coming up hopefully soon we should be pretty good rotation wise. Anyway just a few random thoughts although I am pretty sure I have given up on Reyes already. |
