General manager Brian Sabean's trade talks have not run into a wall, but one player who might have been close to becoming a Giant did.
According to a major-league source, the Giants were well along in talks with the Royals on a deal for outfielder David DeJesus, perhaps finalizing the details, when he crashed into the fence at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night and tore a ligament in his right thumb. DeJesus will require surgery and is out for the year. The deal would have been for two minor-league prospects, another source said. On Thursday afternoon, before DeJesus got hurt, Sabean reiterated on his KNBR radio program that he is reluctant to trade a starter because he does not have a replacement in reserve. The Giants are one of three or four teams still looking at DeJesus' teammate, Jose Guillen, a source said. Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...#ixzz0ubt8eMBq |
Many here realize that I am NOT a fan of Dayton Moore--shocking, I realize--but it's hard to criticize a GM for holding out on making a deal to maximize value, assuming a deal was going to get done.

THe guy I really like in their system is OF Thomas Neal. Bumgarner isn't going to happen for Guillen, but I think Sabean would have considered it for DeJesus... |

We'd have a better bag of shit in that proposed swap. Seriously.
Just saying... |
Meche = Perez
Guillen > Frencouer Farnsworth >>> Castillo Royals would be definite losers. BUT DM has a stiff cock for Francouer and always has. |

Meche and Guillen are completely worthless (injuries, suckage, etc.), and I still have 0 belief in Farnsworth in high-leverage situations. LHP always can have some value, even if it's out of the pen. There is the possibility of lightning in a bottle from Frencouer, and Castillo is completely worthless. KC would clearly have the better smelling sack of shit. |
