He could. Looks like he OPS in the 800s in 14 and was off to a great start in the minors and MLB this year. I don't know if anything significantly better then him right now is available.

@BNightengale: The #Padres are expected to eat about half of remaining $56 million in Shields contract when they trade him.

Probably not... except of that cuban guy is an obp machine then try it. That said DFA Infante...waste of a roster spot

So 28 Mil for 2 1/2 years of Shields (11 mil a year)? Not what he was, but seems like a good guy to solidify the back end with Volquez, Kennedy, Ventura, Shields, Duffy.

We'll see. A few of my ChiSox friends are going apeshit because it's rumored they'll be sending over one of their top two prospects in exchange. Sox might be going for WS or bust with this one but Shields likely won't cover the very real holes on that roster.

His numbers since 2015 have been much more Jeremy Guthrie than 13-14 Shields.

I hope the Royals go after some SP as well. As is, this is NOT a staff that is Playoff Caliber. I think our bats will continue to improve as we get guys back and Morales crawls slowly out of his slump. But our SP is very suspect, and won't be enough to win the Central without an acquisition. Just my very unqualified opinion.

Man, if the Padres are eating that much cash, I expect Anderson is part of the deal. Not sure the Sox have another guy that valuable ( guess Carson Fulmer could be the principle, but that seems light).
