The Knights had a great passing game last season and Alfred Morris in the backfied. But the defense under performed. This draft was all about fixing the defense.

13 Jarvis Jones -- provides a pass rusher from the LB spot. I have Geno Atkins, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Michael Johnson, but had trouble getting consistent pressure on the passer last year. Jarvis Jones will bring the pain and lift my pass rush to the elite level.

37 Kiko Alonso -- LBs were a real weakness for the Knights last season. I fill the middle with this pick. He's starting for the Bills.

47 Darius Slay -- he had a tough first game with the Lions, but Kevin Ross had a terrible first outing against the Steelers a few years back. He'll be my nickle or dime for now. I have good depth at corner, which is needed when you rush 5 on passing downs.

61 Sio Moore -- MOAR LB. He's a starter for the Raiders. If all three pan out, I'm set at that position for years.

85 Akeem Spence -- DT depth. I hope he'll emerge as a starter in a couple years for me, but he is already starting in TB. Yes, that is the fifth NFL starter that I'm adding to this defense.

109 DeVonte Holloman -- play maker for Dallas at OLB. Seems to always be at the right place at the right time. He recovered a fumble on special teams. He'll eventually be a starter for Dallas and potentially a star. Couldn't pass on the potential at this pick.

133 Mychal Rivera -- Caught a couple of passes in the opener for Oakland. Depth for now at the TE position.

157 Michael Buchanan -- Good football name. He took a few snaps at DE for the Patriots in week 1. I like guys who see the field early on. Worth a 7th.

As soon as cdcox gets a little coding done. Since we already have a free agent system built, my guess is that it'll happen relatively quickly.

You win a free agent by having the top bid for a period of something like 3 days without someone outbidding you (plus an additional day in which the original owner of that player, if any, gets one last chance to make a final winning bid). So theoretically, you could blow your entire salary cap and sign several free agents in the first week. But then you'd be out of the picture for the rest of the free agency period.

They're going to phase free agents into the process in groups. At the beginning, free agents from a couple of real NFL teams will be available. A week or so later, FAs from another team or two will be added to the pool. And so on. So if you have a specific guy targeted, you might have to wait a couple of months befor he even shows up in the FA pool.

The only change to this writeup is that the rosters won't be unlimited during Phase 1 of free agency. We realized that someone could bid $1 on a ton of players and have a 400-player training camp roster. Most likely, we'll have a 75-player limit in Phase 1.

Are you phasing free agents in over time for because it's too hard to get all the data into the system all at once or because it keeps things interesting through the entire real NFL season?

No, the FAs will enter the market in groups over time. Each one will stay a FA until no one outbids the high bid for a couple of days, when that happens, the FA moves to the winner's roster. So one FA COULD be on market for that long if the bidding is slow, but doesn't ever stop long enough for someone to win, but I doubt any of them go that long.

Two reasons.

First, it's a pure business thing. We want to keep people engaged year-round, albeit at a low level that doesn't compete with fantasy football.

Second, it's kind of good for game reasons. On your current roster you'll have injuries, and you'll have people who are having a terrible season or a great season. By feeding players into the pool over time, it will let people build their "training camp" roster with the opportunity to speculate on free agents early and get injury fill-ins without having to wait 16 weeks. You can almost think of the NFL season as the Sandbox training camp, where you get the players in and some get injured and you realize that others have lost a step.

On the second note, perhaps some feedback would be good. We were debating about feeding players into the pool on a weekly basis (current plan) or a quarterly basis. A quarterly basis would require less ongoing monitoring by players, because they would get a fresh batch of free agents after Week 4, 8, 12, and 17. We'd obviously like more engagement, but at the same time we don't want to compete with fantasy football.

Would people prefer weekly feeds of the free agent pool or quarterly feeds?
