Keats for tomorrow

Tonight I'm going to start Arsenals of Folly by Richard Rhodes for pleasure.

So last fall I mentioned that I was reading The Count of Monte Cristo. I read about 400 pages of it, and the first 300 were really great. Then it dragged on soo much with side characters that I didn't care about. I put it down for good.

I started American Lion by Jon Meachem, about Andrew Jackson. It's taken me a while to read the first 100 pages, not because of the book, but because of my other reading demands. It's very accessible and fresh popular history.

What else we got around here?

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Liked it - thought they could have edited a bit better, a nicely streamlined version would get 5 stars, this hefty tome gets 3.75 instead.

Reading a couple from a very dear friend of mine Frank Rhyno. His first attempts at writing. Not bad actually.

Better than what my brother pumped out

All personal hate for the guy aside.
If regurgitated Hero becomes James bond in under 1 year with the help of a Mr. Miaggie tutor , replayed, re-written used holly wood script adventure gets you off, this is the book.
Due wins a contest, gets covertly hired by ??? the Agency, gets set up and takes care of teh dudes who framed him. Leads cops on chases, etc, etc, etc.
About 100 pages too long, and the balistics are wayyyyy over explaned.

I just started the Marquise of O by Kleist. It's a short story.

I've also been reading the Diary of a Wimpy kid books to my son, but I read them just as much for myself. They're funny.

Been reading a lot for my Comp II class. Just read Richard Ford's short story "Optimists" and was completely blown away by it. I'll be buying his collection. Holy shit, it was good.

Christmas gift card for Amazon is netting me a hefty box of treats on Monday.

I'm starting a recent fantasy series entitled Shadows of the Apt by a British fantasy author named Adrian Tchaikovsky. Amazon's delivering the first three novels, Empire in Black and Gold, Dragonfly Falling and Blood of the Mantis. I picked up the fourth book, Salute the Dark, a few months back.

Also getting a science fiction novel that was highly reviewed by a source I trust, Diving into the Wreck by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.

And last, but certainly not least, is Joe Abercrombie's latest, The Heroes.
