I'm not sure why people can't figure out that the name is derogatory. It's not something that was thought up as an endearment; it was something that white people called Native Americans with nothing but 100% malice behind it. If we had a team called the Atlanta ****ers, whose logo was a slave head, anyone think it would still be around? No? Why not? Because there are a lot more black people around to complain than there are Native Americans, that's why. Or how about the San Fransisco Chinks, with an Asian guy as the logo? "Chiefs" and "Braves" are honorable, not derogatory. "Indians" is simply a misnomer thanks to Columbus not knowing where the **** he was. "Redskins" is a different matter.

It's not like the Washington football team was named the redskins and the mascot created and then people went "hey, that looks like an Indian. Let's start calling Indians redskins." Redskins was a racist slang term a hundred and fifty years ago. These days the people who hate the American Indians call them Gut Eating Bastards. Least ways that's what the people in South Dakota do.

Perhaps they could go with a logo that's the shape of Long Island and change their name to the Deal Makers...

Short of that just change all the names (ours too) and just let there be little beyond history books to remember them by.
