So I have no idea where the 700 kbps number came from. My understanding is that it scales up or down based on your connection (like Netflix) and tops out at 3 Mbps.

I hope they up the quality at some point. Those are settings when DSL first came out. I have Comcast at 20+Mbps. Netflix looks amazing in HD so hopefully it looks comparable, although I don't know what the settings are for streaming Netflix in HD.
I just hope the servers don't crash and burn like they did last year for the first two weeks. At some points you couldn't watch any streams for an hour or more, which is insanely unacceptable for the price you are paying. But it's DTV, I shouldn't expect much more.
