The Buccaneers knew the calls. If the opposition knows where you're going to throw the ball, they can get there to intercept it. Besides, that's irrelevant. The guy was an MVP and got his team to the Super Bowl.

This is an oversimplified conversation if I've ever seen one.

Sad, ain't it?

This was the one place of the 3 you could get some real talk without the whole "rainbows, unicorns and ice cream" vibe.

You're right, it's not that bad yet, but it is definitely trending in that direction.

You're ****ing kidding me....right? Now it's that the other team knew where he was going to throw it to. It's not Gannon's fault that he threw a shit tone of INTs that day. It's the coaches. FFS people.

It's definitely getting there. I remember when I left WPI because of the bullshit they called discussions over there.

Even fans of the other team are getting into the act.

Excuses, excuses.

Why do you keep bringing up something irrelevant and acting as if it matters? He threw a lot of picks in the Super Bowl, and part of the problem was that the opposing team knew exactly what plays were being run.

I thought this was common knowledge.

It doesn't matter anyway, as far as the point I was trying to make. He was still a league MVP and took his team to the Super Bowl.

Hold on.

People are so quick to look at the END of a game for answers, but ignore the beginning.

I was asked what more Cassel could have done to win that game, and I pointed out SEVERAL things, namely, not go 10-20 and stall twice inside the 30 and once inside the 15.

That's fact. Sorry you don't like it. Better 1st half play wouldn't necessitate a miracle effort in the 2nd just to get to OT.

And regarding the double standard, I didn't say that, Doomy brought that scenario to the conversation, which was ridiculous - comparing a 2-time SB Champion to a guy that has 11 career starts is comedy gold.

Again, others have made this about Cassel. I'm only saying that this fanbase has a habit of making excuses for average QB's when they fail. Seeing as how Cassel has yet to take a snap in a Chiefs uniform, I don't see where he fits in this equation. I simply made a comment about a picture that epitomizes the thinking of this fanbase - that the QB never seems to be held accountable, and that there's always an excuse that absolves him from blame.

I can see your point on that, but the problem is that you're acting as if a QB is like a CEO of a company that needs to be held accountable for the entire company. He's not. The distinction is that Cassel cannot do anything for the defense, except maybe extend drives. Look at any company. If sales go up 75% but your operations department is so inefficient that costs go up 100%, your bottom line goes down and your business "loses." You can say that sales messed up because they didn't increase by 100%. But isn't it more logical to blame your operations department?

It's not like basketball where Lebron James is responsible for playing both good offense and defense. And so, the only way you can judge players is based on whether they played well within realistic expectations. If your realistic expectation is that your QB needs to score 30+ points to win games, then your QB has to be damn near perfect to win football games.

But QBs shouldn't be expected to be perfect to win football games. Of course, there are places where Cassel could have done better in that game, but improving from great to perfect is a hell of a lot harder than improving the defense that game from horrendous to average. When a baseball team loses, I blame the guy who went 0-4, not the guy who went 3-4 but missed out on one hit. He exceeded REALISTIC expectations. Accountability is not about blaming everyone when you lose. Accountability is about recognizing successes and improving the areas where you failed.
