I miss the gold-old days of Boston sucking shit in most major sports, or being just good enough to rip fans' ****ing hearts out, which I'll term "KC style," since that's how we roll here.

Ray Berry was a perfectly ok coach, and did soem good stuff for us, including Squish the Fish and all that. Can't lump him in with the coaching turds that I named. Those guys just flat sucked.

Hell, Berry would've had a good year in '87 too if we hadn't lost three defensive starters, all above-average guys, in the preseason.

Don't frigging tell me I don't appreciate how good it is. You gotta be old enough to remember just how f'n BAD it was to know how good you have it.

oh I know you had it bad...what I really meant was...

I'd be almost kind of sad to be a Pats fan...because the end is closer than the beginning...and when it ends it'll never be the same.

You'll be starting threads telling us "we don't know how bad it is" like good ol' Rams Fan who's team won a Super Bowl a decade ago...

At least the Broncos fans are still living it up from their back to back titles.

I'm thinking back over the last 13 years (my tenure in town) and I can't think of a single team that's been good enough to rip anybody's heart out. Royals, Chiefs, it's all been a steady drone of suck.

I think the Chiefs will be there next year, though.

I do know how lucky we are. The Pats sucked ass for many years. Ya there were some good years with Steve Grougun ,Eisen at Q/B & Spidyman ,Fryer at wide out.
But never did I see the DYNASTY thing happening.
God the ass kicking I took in grade school wearing my Pats winter coat.
Every kid wore either a Stealer or a cowboys coat back then.
I stuck out like a sore thumb in late 70s.

Not sure where you were, but I grew up near Boston, mostly nobody wore any football gear. Football was waaay behind baseball and hockey in this town in terms of popularity.

Amazing that football is now equal to baseball, at least.

errrr....no. 'tis far better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

FAR BETTER.

Let me analogize -- you could have 10 years of Megan Fox [or whoever] however and whenever you want her, but you know she isn't forever, and then you will have to wait and see if another girl comes along for you.

Or you could die a virgin.

Choose one.

Yeah, that's frigging tough...

'95 and '97 Chiefs.

Grunhard tells the story that many on the '95 team were literally making SB preparations. In '97, a lot of analysts said that the two best teams in the NFL (us and the cheating ****ing Donks) met in the divisional round.

Oh, I think Belichick's way cool. But you can be cool and still be an asshole. :D And using Jimmy Johnson as a character reference is probably not the best example, LOL.

As you said, nothing wrong with being an asshole. Some of the most successful people in their fields have been assholes. Politics, Hollywood, sports, music, whatever.

Wes Welker likes his “foot” metaphors
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 13, 2011, 3:23 PM EST
Wes Welker, Carson Butler

Just when you think the chatter between the Patriots and Jets couldn’t get sillier, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker stepped to the podium Thursday as if dared to see how many “foot” references he could cram in to a single media session. Behold:

1. On this week of preparation: “Everybody’s putting their best foot forward.”

2. On young players in the playoffs: “You can’t just stick your toe in the water. You gotta jump right in.”

3. On playing this year as opposed to last year: “It’s definitely different. You know, you’ve got your foot up in the air trying to get the swelling to go down. Definitely excited about the opportunity to get out there and have some fun.”

4. On the opportunity this week: “These are the games you play for. What you spend all year getting ready for and you just want to put your best foot forward.”

5. On Revis: “He’s got great feet.”

6. On Revis again: “He’s very patient, has good feet.”

7. On Deion Branch: “He runs some really good routes out there . . . He’s another guy with great feet and can really move around.”

8. On practice: “You want to make sure you’re putting your best foot forward out there and making it happen.”

9. More on practice: “Us going out there and being good little foot soliders and making sure we’re going out there and doing everything coach asks us to do.”

10. On seeing new things in the playoffs: “You definitely have to be on your and make sure you’re ready to go.”

Genius. Since this is clearly the most important post I’ll ever write at PFT, let’s analyze further.

Welker is deadpan as ever with his delivery, so there’s no way he can really be called out for it. A few clues indicate that it’s not just a coincidence. Jackie McMullen of ESPNBoston.com wrote a great feature on Welker. Part of it is about what a huge prankster he is.

“Put Wes, Matt [Cassel] and Larry Izzo in a room, and they are ‘The Three Stooges,’” Tom Brady said.

Welker got his first “foot” reference in on his first question and rarely let up in his ten minutes of talking. He also appears to be stifling a smile and/or laugh after his two most ridiculous references — No. 2 and No. 9.

Maybe it’s all a coincidence, but we really doubt it. And that would be no fun. We’ll continue to update you on this vitally important breaking story here at PFT.
ROFL ROFL ROFL God bless you Wes Welker.

Ben Dreith and Tony Eason. Victor Kiam and PenisGate (or whatever you want to call it). Irving Fryar and the kitchen knife incident. Ken Sims and being the "Patsies". Bill Parcells, buying groceries and the "we're playing in the Super Bowl, great, let me start negotiating with my team's rivals about jumping ship". Dick MacPherson and Ron Ehrhart and Rod Rust.

Marino/Shula and Kelly/Levy kicking our ass every year.

DON'T TELL ME I DON'T KNOW HOW GOOD I HAVE IT. I'VE GONE FROM THE OUTHOUSE TO THE PENTHOUSE, AND LIFE IS ****ING SWEET!

I have a feeling you and I (and LiveSteam) are around the same age. I find it funny that people who say "Patriots fans don't know how good they have it" probably don't themselves remember how bad the Patriots used to be, or all those incidents you mentioned. Zeke Mowatt waving "Little Zeke" at Lisa Olsen. Fryar's wife going after him with a knife. "Roughing the passer" causing one of the best teams in Patriots history to miss out. The joy of being the first team to win three road games to make it to the Super Bowl, quickly crushed by the Bears. Making it back 10 years later only to have ****ing Favre celebrating instead. Aside from two quick peaks in the mid-80s and mid-90s, it was brutal around here. Back when the Colts were in the divison, and the AFCE was all about the Shula and Marino Dolphins and then later the Levy and Kelly Bills, and the Patriots and Colts were left to play in the annual "Toilet Bowl" against each other. First game I went to, as a teen in the 80s, the Browns broke Grogan's leg and beat the Patriots at that metal bowl of a piece of shit they called Sullivan/Schaefer Stadium. Next time I went, they lost to the freakin' Houston Oilers. We had ONE player in Canton, and he was a friggin' O-lineman. Our most historical moment was when an ex-convict drove a snowplow onto the field to beat the mighty Dolphins. Our second-most historical moment was when the owner's son got punched out by Matt Millen.

I don't like it. I prefer the Patriots do what they do best, which is take the high road and say nothing until they've won the game. This just shows that Ryan actually accomplished his goal, which was to get in the heads of the Patriots and distract them. I think I'm revising my prediction now, to a tight game and a FG win by New England.

Epic Win for Wes Welker.

Seems to me that the Pats are laughing about it, more than stressing out about it and letting it get in their heads.
