I do not think anybody on here has seen Bade Ruth play in person, highlight reels, yes, but not in person.

A lot of choices, for each his own per their generation.

1. Roberto Clemente

2. Pete Rose

3. Barry Bonds, steroid laden

4. Steve Carlton

Brett.

Reggie. And Reggie is really the greatest player, but I saw George every day and I'm biased.

Got to see Hank Aaron play for the Brewers in Royals Stadium.

Rod Carew, Lymon Bostock per murder, Larry Hisle. So many Cincinnatti Reds players of the 70's. Bench, Morgan, Don Gullett.

Mike Schmidt, almost forgot him. Lou Brock. Lefty Carlton. Bob Gibson. Felipe and Matty Alou.

Although they werent stars I got to see a Cardinals roster that had all the Cruz brothers on it. Jose, Hector and Tommy. They only played in one game together, but I wasn't there for it.

Not his fault, but he played in a time when there was a ton of talent excluded from MLB. Baseball is a sport that equates better than most sports across the decades, but I'm not ready to say that he would put up anything remotely comparable in numbers in today's game or (even during the 60's and 70's) that he had then. He was certainly a gifted hitter for that era and transformed the game.

I'm a National League guy all the way, but Brett would be high on my list of those I saw play. He was just a great hitter, decent fielder, smart base runner. Griffey was probably the best all around I ever saw play.

Bo Jackson, please...great athlete for sure. Dave Parker had a better arm, and if I wanted a clutch hit, I would stick with Bob Gibson rather than pinch hit with Bo.

Bo

If game 7 of the WS was on the line, give me Bob Gibson. But with this said, when I say best player, can you really put a pitcher in the conversation as the best player when they do not play everyday ?

Seriously ?

Pitchers do not qualify as everyday players.
