Was that a season long run for Trent?

Truth be told, it's pretty much a coin flip, but if Luck is more than a franchise QB and instead a HOFer, I think the QB is the way to go.

Though I'm going to be very interested to see how the QB market shapes up in FA over the next 5 years. WIll the performances of guys like Campbell - solid vets that can survive given the ease of the passing rules - lower the market value of QBs? Will they continue to skyrocket and guys like Flacco and Romo will get 2-3 times what anybody else of that skill level would get that played a different position?

Something's gotta give, IMO. Teams can't continue to leverage their QB contracts like they are. The Falcons, Cowboys and Giants are ****ed, IMO.

The only QBs that should be getting those deals are HOF guys. Mere pro-bowlers, etc... should be going for a hell of a lot less.

Also, he'll, look at what Keenum is doing as an udfa (please let bray do that for us).

With a better support system (coaches, players etc) his play is absolutely good enough to win a sb.

If that's the case, why spend 20+ mil per year?

Like I said - spending insane money on a very good QB needs to go the way of the dinosaurs.

Those supercontracts need to offered to HOF caliber guys only. The rest simply don't bring enough value to offset the fact that they're going to cost enough to keep 2 or 3 top-end starters off your roster.

If that person is Brees, Brady, Rodgers or Manning, sure. Luck or maybe Wilson someday, yup. But if it's Flacco, Romo, Manning, Ryan, etc...; I'm sorry, but the rules are just making passing too easy. You can find someone if you look - like you said, look at Keenum, Foles and others.

I see Tannehill being the guy from this 'kid' class that gets some obscene contract in 3 years that destroys his franchise's ability to compete by 2020.

mr. tegu 11-14-2013 09:37 PM

Wow. No way he got even close to that.

DJ's left nut 11-14-2013 09:38 PM

I've seen Trent Richardson get tackled by people that have fallen down 3 times already tonight.

He's incredibly bad. I'm just stunned by it, to be honest. I thought he was going to be great.

I think it all started with fear. Teams feared that they couldn't find someone as good, but in doing that (paying what they did and do) it severely inhibits what they can and need to do with said qbs who aren't able to shoulder it all themselves, which is add more elite talent.

Now? He'll, you can find guys like Keenum, foles, Wilson, etc everywhere.

I also think teams are afraid that if they don't sign the guy, he'll go somewhere else and become elite.

DJ's left nut 11-14-2013 09:39 PM

And then he flat doesn't even try to pick up the man when he gets inside of Castonzo. Jesus, Richardson is garbage.

Never ever ever ever take/spend/ buy a rb high. Or spend much on one.

At this point, I don't know that I'd even spend a high pick on ap

Awesome deep passing game by the Colts.

TB, for everything they've done wrong, actually handled the Freeman thing perfectly. Everyone called them cheap and stupid for not locking up a young guy that had a damn good year - now they look brilliant.

I hope this calms down a little - it's screwing with the game.

I think it was pure luck they handled it right, that franchise is a joke right now.

I think those qbs (Ryan, flacco, etc) are absolutely good enough to win SBs. But the contracts severely limit what they NEED around them in order to do so.

So I really don't know what you do.

mr. tegu 11-14-2013 09:44 PM

I would have never guessed Fitzpatrick had over 15k in passing yards in his career.

Petro had some stats about Super Bowl winning qbs and the % of the teams salary cap. No huge money qb has won a Super Bowl since they got the huge money

O.city 11-14-2013 09:48 PM

It also seems the league is turning more to loading up and gearing for ways to stop the pass. I do t know what the effect of that will be though, do teams go back to a power base game? Do teams start throwing more money at pass catchers?

I've wondered about this. Do you have any links to anything of the such?
