Attending the safety meeting in the pits were mandatory when I was racing. And every single time it was made perfectly clear that you are never to get out of your car while on the track unless it was on fire.
Never ever get out for any reason other than fire. Too bad the kid didn't just stay in his car and settle it in the pits like we did. That being said, it certainly looks like it was pretty much Stewarts fault. The second you hit the gas on one of those cars, on a banked dirt track the ass end is going to slide to the outside (right). No way Stewart doesn't know that. He may have intended to throw dirt all over the kid and just hit the gas a split second too soon. That would make more sense than intentionally running over him. |
