Donger, I don't know where that chart came from, but it doesn't reflect what gas prices did in the midwest. I drive an average of 5000 miles every month for work, so I buy a lot of gas and have a good idea of what I've had to pay. I haven't seen prices anywhere close to the $2.97 that you show in 2018. I don't think that I ever saw above $2.50.

Last night Mrs. B sent me out for pizza. I noticed all the gas stations had jumped their price for unleaded from $2.22 to $2.49. So I went on the "straggler station hunt." You know, that one station who's employees are lazy and don't change the price till a few hours behind every one else? I have one such station close to my house, but it's the loser burnout creepy gas station. The credit card reader on the pump has been vandalized so you have to go inside to pay. When I went in, I was the only one wearing a mask. Clerk had her mask under her chin. The guy in line ahead of me was in pajama pants, arguing about how the vape thing he bought there the day before "Damn neer set mah trailer on fiah...." He wanted to bitch at Hadji, the owner. "Hadji won't be in till tomorrow sometime. He sets his own hours." Finally got to the front and bought $20 to top off my tank. This morning they were at $2.49 just like everybody else. But I saved $2. It's the principle of the thing...

Guys, just use Gas Buddy. It's a great app and there's no more hunting for the lowest gas prices.

$2.75. Seems to have stabilized from the issues in Texas.
|
Up to $2.75 here, odd because we're usually below the national average.

I'll tell you all the best thing that I've found for saving money on gas. It's the Conoco/Philps66/76 gas station app. Pay using the app and they take 15¢ per gallon off right at the pump. If you set it up to use their credit card as payment through the app, it's another 10¢ off at the pump. And it can check for every station in the area and give you the price at each station. I use it a lot. If you figure that I drove 60k miles last year and got 30 mpg, I used roughly 2000 fallings of gas and saved approximately $500.

Gasoline has stabilized, and even dropped a little. Now back at $2.87.

Sweet, sounds like a good time to buy that V12 Canyonero!
|
This won't mean anything to those outside the mid-Atlantic area, but the last few weeks have been a little weird. As a rule, Wawa has been the price leader anywhere they build a new store. They always set the standard; everyone around them either matches the price or loses business.
Now, the local Wawa is running $.12/gal HIGHER than the Valero and Exxon stations all around them. And there's still a mob at their pumps. |
223 and 5.56 octane are running $0.90 to $ 1.25 a octane round, when you can find it.
45 and 9mm octane is running around $52.00 for a box of fifty octane. Crazy times. |

Gas pipelines shut down, fires at chip factories, ships getting stuck in canals. There are a lot of things happening to create shortages in a lot of different sectors. What the **** is going on?

CHAMBLEE, Ga. - More than 1,000 gas stations in the Southeast reported running out of fuel, primarily because of what analysts say is unwarranted panic-buying among drivers, as the shutdown of a major pipeline by a gang of hackers entered its fifth day Tuesday. |

Ah, I see. That's what I was (mis)remembering. Octopodes is right about there being a northeast gasoline supply reserve though. That's the first I've ever heard of it, honestly.
