If he can no longer bail himself out with his legs, he might as well be Cassel.

Exactly.

He is Alex Cassel.

Oh, it's all good.

To answer, I'd say "a fault" of Alex's is that he is extremely obedient. He has a small area of flexibility in changing plays, but overall, he's just a dull soldier who will pretty much follow the orders given.

This has always been his mindset... and yes.. it is frustrating.

The truth is this.. I am VERY disappointed in what I'm seeing in much of Alex Smith's play. I'm almost hopeful he'll retire or leave KC, if this season continues its shit-show on offense.

I'm still not buying in that he is the primary problem... but I did expect him to be carrying the offense better than this. I also expected a better OL and less receiver/Ware fumbles than I am seeing. I also expected Andy/Alex to become more aggressive in this yr 4.

My expectations have led to disappointment.. but some people here are going wildly dramatic.. while also focusing most of their frustration on the QB. It's not a surprise.. but it just adds to the disappointment.

Again.. it's just common sense. If Alex was not doing as asked, and was seen as the primary problem, he wouldn't be on the field. Reid and Dorsey want to keep their jobs, and that means they need to keep the winning seasons going. They would not continue to trot this QB out there to the field if he was not following instructions, and was the one sinking this offense.

.. and obviously, sinking this offense is not the same as lifting it out of the water. Apparently Alex is not good enough to lift the playcalling, bottom tier OL, and frequent skill player ****ups.. out of the water. Find a QB that can? hey... go for it. How many QBs out there are there that can do so? 3? 5? and are they available?

Remember the 2nd season during the San Fran game where I just turned my back on him and said he's a ****ing pussy? It took him over a year to get me back. Against San Diego this year in week 1 what did you see? That's Alex. That's what I wanted back then. Don't let these guys beat you down. We're about to go on a big run and the defense will look much different at the end of the year once these young corners have evolved and Justin Houston is back. Alex is going to be fine, and the Chiefs are going to be great, and these guys will not be on your shit so much. Stick to your guns. We're fine. He's fine. It'll work itself out beginning in Oakland. Half of these guys jaws are dropping as they read these posts that I make these days. It's cool. :)

He will still be a ****ing idiot no matter what the chiefs do.

I mean he bashed the linemen a couple weeks ago in the pff thread when 4 of the 5 (actually 5 of the 6 who played) graded out higher in their position group than Alex did.

Let's be honest. Sandy is Alex's biggest critic of the folks that came over. He wants to see the Chiefs win. When Alex is a part of the problem, Sandy will complain about him. Sandy is such a bitch that at halftime of the Chargers game....he stated that he was throwing away his Alex Smith jersey. Alex wins the game and now he's back on his nuts worse than before. He came here because Smith.....and then wouldn't shut up about how none of the team's problems were on Smith. He repeatedly echos that he doesn't have enough weapons....or his offensive line sucks....or Reid's play calling is what's hurting Smith. **** him.

That, and quickly learned the CP way of getting down and dirty with the hostility. Not one of my proud moments, and I don't think I ever properly apologized to George.. though I don't suspect it matters to him.

Yeah, I'd guess those comments.. from last yr maybe?.. were right after a game... since that's usually when George posts his 10 things.

The Alex Smith we have seen this season is not capable of leading a playoff run, let alone a Super Bowl run. And that’s a problem, as (despite not being perfect) the Chiefs have a roster talented enough to do either (I’m not kidding).

Foles wouldn’t need to come in and be elite to improve the Chiefs offense. He could play at the same level he played at this preseason and the offense would improve. Smith has struggled that much.

Again, I’m not saying it’s time to make a move. This is Alex’s team and he has, in my opinion, done enough to earn a bit more slack. But with the emergence of Chris Conley and Spencer Ware, along with the improved play of the offensive line (yes, it has been improved from last year, it’s just been hard to see with Smith’s struggles) ... we should be seeing Smith play at a higher level than we’ve ever seen him play. Instead, he’s regressed to a level well beneath what we saw last season.

The Franchise 10-07-2016 08:38 AM

It's not happening. Smith will finish out the year and we'll hear about how this offense needs more weapons and better blocking. Foles will move onto another team.

Because they have to protect his poor, little feelings. He can't be benched on a second team. He was brought here to win a Super Bowl.

I don't know what broke down on him quicker...his football intelligence or his body. He had a good run....it's time to move on. Put in Foles and see if you even want to bring him back next year.

rico 10-07-2016 08:54 AM

On the bright side, Andy Reid has said, "no one is a bigger fan of Nick Foles than me." And this was last year when he went to St. Louis.... So we know Andy genuinely loves Foles. I dunno, I am less skeptical of Alex being benched for Foles than I was Cassel ever being benched for...errr, Stanzi, Palko, Quinn, Tanney or Croyle... I think it's possible we see it happen....either that or some injury to Alex randomly "pops up."

The Franchise 10-07-2016 09:08 AM

When does it happen? Say we come out after our bye week and get stomped by the Raiders.....is it then?

Smith has 4 defenses coming up that are beatable. The Raiders, Saints, Colts and Jags can all be beat on defense.

Bunch of ingrates! Smith just a season ago led us to our first playoff win in convincing style. In a long long time

We limped into New England dessimated by injuries. Prior to that we reeled off 11 wins in a row. Before Smith we had a 2-14 lost cause team. His first year he led us to the playoffs and spanked the Colts. Our secondary crumbled and pissed away his stellar performance w a weak receiving core. He has earned more leash than you are giving him. At least Smith stays healthy and has been there for us in the big playoff games. All of our other stars like Jamaal and Houston have missed the big games due to injuries or concussion. Give Smith Maclin and Ware & Houston last year and we beat New England in that game and go onto crush the Donkeys just like we did when Manning got benched. We had the best team in the league last year and could not stay healthy. Denver was not a better team. Smith has earned more leash and this is your lamest article to date. I like you MN but this article was garbage and lacks respect for our field general.

Smith has 4 defenses coming up that are beatable. The Raiders, Saints, Colts and Jags can all be beat on defense.

Depends on how true Andy is to his word in regards to how much of a fan he is of Foles. If they wait until the season is lost, it could be perceived as a move that was made because we have nothing to lose, so why not? However, if he made the move as early as after a Raiders loss (and presumed frustrating Alex performance), then I would guess that it would be indicative of Andy legitimately being a fan of Foles and having trust in him to potentially salvage our season.

Keep in mind that next season if we cut Alex it will save us 10 million on the cap, but if we use our option on Foles it will cost 10 million against the cap. No way that's a coincidence.

**** that guy. The still frame pics and gifs don't lie. Stop basking in the "glory" of us beating a Texans team that clearly had no business being in the playoffs last year. I loved the win at the time (still do) and it was ridiculously overdue that we win a playoff game, but let's not make it out to be some career defining achievement for either Alex or this franchise.

Interesting stat from 810 this AM..Alex is on pace to throw the 4th most passes in a season in NFL history.

Maybe this is Reid forcing Alex's hand. 4th year....you should be able to work with this gameplan.

Although who the **** knows anymore at this point. All I know is that this offense should be light years ahead of where they are now.

The Houston loss was as much Andy's fault as anyone's. West/Ware had a combined 118 rushing yards on only 16 carries.

Inexcusable to abandon the run.

I'd just like to see the clear evidence of Alex throwing a key block on Davis' KO return or the amount of pressure he was applying to Hoyer to make him throw all of those picks.

CoMoChief 10-07-2016 10:24 AM

Arrowhead pride broke it down that Alex smith only had 1 or 2 passes that went + 20yrds.

35 passes inside 15 yrds......35?!?!

He also hasn't been running as much, which plummets his value significantly....that's probably his best quality. If he's not running he's a below average game managing qb.

Going back to April, does anyone believe the report that we wanted Lynch or do you think it was just a rumor floated by the Chiefs?

I don't believe the report that we were baiting the Broncos to trade up. I think we wanted him but didn't have the picks to go get him.

Rumor to get a partner to trade out of the 1st round.

notorious 10-07-2016 10:51 AM

If the Chiefs wanted him, they could have made it happen.

If they wanted him, yet let Denver sneak in front of them because they didn't want to use picks, they are idiots.

Bottom line: If you want a guy, you make it happen.

Yet he might struggle to get to 4,000 yards. :D

He's on pace for:

672 attempts
4288 yards
20 TDs
8 INTs

Wow....that's totally worth $17 million.

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

I know this is an old thread and I am not going to read the whole thing.

I also did not get to see the kc-sd game but followed it on the NFL Game center app on my Cell phone. Didn't Alex have like 70 yards total passing yards until garbage time in the SD game allowing SD to get to a big lead that they pissed away after Allen went down?

He was terrible in the Houston game as well. No TD drive. Dinking and dunking to FG's.

Then there was the nailbiter Jets game despite the fact that Fitz threw some 7 or 8 INTs he kept driving down threatening to make it a one score game if not for repeatedly turning the ball over in the red zone. Had Alex had a couple more drives it would have been a laugher.

Pitt: Stone walled again until garbage time late in the game. Couldn't do anything to keep drives alive. His 1st over all pick LT letting him down causing sacks and turnovers.

The problem with Smith is he cannot throw deep consistently enough. All the big chunk plays by kc are mid range throws where there is YAC involved or the D has been cleared out underneath leaving lots of space for the ball runner to make a move.

It is rare to see Alex hit on a 30 or more yard, IN THE AIR, pass play.

Reid has done nothing with this team in his 4 years. It looks the same on O as it did when he took over but worse on D because of entropy and drafting guys like Dee Ford.

Guessing this is the last year of the Andy, Alex train! Toot Toot.

The Franchise 10-07-2016 01:19 PM

Smith's high for pass attempts was 2013 with 508. That year he had 3,313 yards with 23 TDs and 7 INTs.

But look at the stats. Never mind when he put them up against SD.
