If not, and all he gets is a guaranteed amount, I'd say that they can indeed put him in a cube in the basement and make him HMFIC of gum wrapper patrol. And his game-day $8M can be to patrol various parts of the stadium picking up trash. It's not much for $8M, but it's better than letting anybody even remotely think he's got any connection to football operations.

And mark your calendars... I will now change parts of my signature...

And if we do enough of the right things (new GM, top tier "well known" HC, and a QB who somebody neutral, Deface, says is an awesome choice), I will even buy Jason a beer...

I think you're a little bit older than me and can probably remember the 80s. Those 1995 and 1997 losses were just absolutely crushing to me...

Absolutely.

But back then when you said "next year" you could actually believe it.

My last comment (for the time being) on the Billick-Cowher debate is this:

The first broke dick won his lone SB with an historic defense. This is exactly the model that we've argued against, countless times, when people attempt to mitigate the need for a franchise QB.

The second broke dick won his lone SB when he drafted a young, franchise QB. This single draft pick outweighs the entire draft record of the Ravens because Big Ben has gone on to win another SB and has consistently put PITT in the championship discussion because of his presence.

The Cowher SB model is repeatable. The Billick model, while repeatable, is far more difficult to obtain.

Finally, yes it was fortuitous that PITT was in position to select Roethlisberger, but they still had to have the good sense and balls to make the pick. Attributes the Chiefs haven't possessed since '83.

If the Chiefs select Smith and he ends up being what we think he can be, we won't look back on the pick and say the team fell ass backwards into the pick because we know how vehemently some have attempted to disparage the player and argue for franchise (insert less important position).

Cowher and Billick had very different draft windows. No way to know how things panned out had Billick an opportunity at Rapebugger or if Cowher was constrained to pick Boller.

Can't we use the same type of hypothetical for just about anyone or any team?

I'm older than you and 95 and 97 were crushing to me, too (esp. 95).

But better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

I can't take another season like this one, where I was following a zombie team and felt absolutely nothing when they lost (and got worried when they WON). That sucks. Why bother being a fan? And I like being a fan of teams, no matter how frustrating it can be.

Actually, the 30 for 30 on Bo reminded me of my timeline as a FB fan.

I had little to no exposure to FB early on [mom took the TV to goodwill when I entered grade school, and it didn't return until we bought a Commodore 64 for educational purposes].

My first 'Boy's Life' from Boy Scouts [Nov 1979] had Terry Bradshaw on the cover. That's the first recollection of any type I have of FB.

Didn't have much of an impact.

Through the 80s, I was solidly a Royals fan. Gramps took us to many games, one of my earliest memories was him telling me about the rally cap. At [now] Kaufmann Stadium, I put my baseball cap on inside out in the bottom of the 9th with George Brett at bat and he promptly hit a walkoff HR.

85 huge of course, after that, I split my attention between the Royals and Larry's Jayhawks. Bo as a Royal was actually my entree to FB. I knew not to root for the Raiders, but I sure as shit rooted for Bo.

My first rooting interest in the Chiefs was Dino Hackett in 1988, then Neil Smith and DT came to town and I was sold. Never missed a game, never missed a second of a game, until this year.

It's [IMO] a little more stark in this instance. Akin to knocking someone who drafted a shitty QB in '84 or '85 for not having as much success as the Dolphins, Bills or Patriots.

The Drew Brees draft is a bit more damning for the Ravens, since he went in the pick immediately after Baltimore's selection.

Sorry but this season was FUN, even if I was rooting for the other team after about week 8.

An, so your fandom really STARTED with Marty. I get it now.

That's BS and you know it. This is like you saying Syd Barrett Pink Floyd is far better than anything that came after. You're just playing the contrarian. Busted!

And your fandom started when the Chiefs were a shitty team, and you continue decades later to prefer shitty teams to teams that are really good, just not good enough.
