No it's not. We have the best catcher in the American League to handle a pitching staff. We have a guy who can develop into an ace in Ventura. We have some prospects, depending on who we just traded away. Mondesi, Starling, Manaea, etc. We have more money because we've finally had success, and right about when this group leaves, we'll be signing a new TV deal for a lot more money. I don't know if we'll be the best team in the AL, probably not, but the foundation is there to be competitive at least.

We will revisit this in a few years. Can't count on it.

It absolutely matters.

It only matters if/when those prospects actually live up to the hype (or something close to it) and you can say "holy shit, the Royals could really use those guys right now."

But, outside of last fall, Chiefs/Royals fans pretty much only know the excitement of potential.

It would be shocking to me if the Royals traded Finnegan for a rental.

I couldn't care less about Starling or Lamb but if Finnegan is part of the package, they'd better get something good coming back for several years.

a high 3 era doesnt get it done in october ...

Even if we have down years once the core of this team splits, there is no way it will be as bad as it was even 7-8 years ago. DM built this organization up from nothing. We'll have a competent farm system after 2017, unlike when DM took over.

As long as we don't go down the "Cespedes for Lester" route I am cool with whatver

It seems clear to me that the Royals see him as a relief pitcher. Maybe he could start, but if the Royals only believe he is a relief pitcher, then he's expendable.

Relax, bud. You're getting worked up about nothing. People have different thoughts than you, it's ok. None of us have a hand in choosing the 25 man roster.

You can't count on anything, that's why we have to go for it now.

But we have Perez and Ventura signed long term. That's not debatable. It's a good start.

How do you know?

My whole point is trading the farm, for a rental player that gives you a 5% better chance to win a Championship is ridiculous. I dont think Im going to hate the trade as much as I thought I would UNLESS ir includes both Lamb and Manaea. I hope they offered Finnegan and Starling at some point. Im not as high on Finnegan as most, or Starling for that matter

Sure-Oz 07-26-2015 11:32 AM

@JonHeymanCBS: hearing lefties john lamb and brandon finnegan could be in cueto trade. not confirmed. @jonmorosi @JeffPassan on this.

Hootie 07-26-2015 11:33 AM

Lamb > Finnegan

That would be the most optimistic assessment of Lamb ever. But if I assume you are right, I still want the other 20%. Cueto comes in and is immediately our no-doubt #1.
