And there's why people who say we can't afford Albert are wrong. That's $20M in 2 years additional space..

So do you restructure deals this year....knowing that you're going to have more cap room to eat those bonuses in the next couple of seasons?

You can sign contracts today with a big signing bonus and a huge roster bonus in 2016. It is a way of basically guaranteeing a massive contract extension in 2016 when we will have a ton of cap space. A lot of our big contracts go off the books in 2016.

Agents will just ask for more, now though.

We absolutely should, IMO.

If its locked at 133, that gives us about 11 worth of space. Count the 2.45 rollover from last years cap and we should be sitting at between 13-14 million in cap space.

Extending Berry should clear up another 4
Restructuring Bowe and Hali could clear up another 13 million...

We could EASILY have 30 million in cap space and not really effect future years cap numbers by doing so.

The Franchise 02-28-2014 11:52 AM

Using http://overthecap.com/calculator/ to see how much cap space restructuring would give us this year but cost us in the next 2 years.

Bowe:

2014: $6 million
2015: -$2 million
2016: -$2 million

Flowers:

2014: $5 million
2015: -$2 million
2016: -$2 million

Hali:

2014: $4 million
2015: -$4 million
2016: N/A

htismaqe 02-28-2014 11:56 AM

Restructuring Bowe has the biggest immediate, and lowest long-term, impact. I don't see him entertaining it, though. Too soon.

The Franchise 02-28-2014 11:59 AM

Restructuring Colquitt gives us roughly $2 million this year and only costs us $500k next year. He might be a decent candidate as well.

BossChief 02-28-2014 11:59 AM

Why would Bowe turn it down?

BossChief 02-28-2014 12:01 PM

I wonder if the Bills would let us give them next years third rounder for the rights to a tag n trade with Byrd.

I know there are lots of options out there at safety this offseason, but none of them would give this defense the kind of mega impact a guy like Byrd would.
