Cal is beyond the level of master when it comes to getting guys to buy in. I have zero doubts about his ability to herd cats and get guys to play together. Losing Dorsey, CDR, and Allen yet somehow assembling an even better defensive team the very next season is a ridiculous feat.

The one time it failed was when Banks went back to Jersey over the summer and came back disinterested in school, sharing the spotlight with D-Wash, or doing much of anything other than being a cancer. What did Cal do? He dumped Banks, probably as much as a wake-up call as anything, and got that ****ed-up team a couple of free throws away from the NCAA tournament.

Everything went your way in the last 2:12. It was amazing and miraculous, right up there with Tyree's catch and all kinds of other insane sports moments. That doesn't mean fans of the team that came out on top should feel justified in acting like the smuggest mother****ers on the planet, though.

Someone accused Memphis of paying players, so I simply brought up the fact that his own school was on probation and recently relied heavily on a player who never actually graduated from high school.

On a personal level, I wish the Arthur stuff hadn't happened. Best-case scenario is we finished second to "Vacant" instead of a team that was every bit as awe-inspiring as the one I marveled at all season, and that just blows even more.

A lot of good points although I think a team revolving around Wall, Cousins, and Henry would be impossible to predict what happens. I believe this because well no one has ever had a class built like that. Not only are they the 1-2-3 players but all 3 would be high draft picks today. I would not be confident in any coach out there being able to handle 3 kids like that. Could they get along great and share the ball? Yea for sure but sadly we have seen to many of these kids want all the attention on themselves so it is hard for me to believe. Part of me wants to see it happen as long as KU brings everyone back + Born Ready and we can rematch in the final four again.

I admit to not really knowing much about Evans stock lately. I know he struggled early on but was flourishing at PG

I don't consider a bad FT shooting team missing FT's luck, but will concede the Sherron steal + 3 was big time but there were big plays the entire game really. Luck is needed to win any championship really. You could find a couple lucky plays by Memphis if they held on to win.

I wish the Arthur stuff never happened as well but I think you are crazy to think they would strip KU of a title because of it. On the other hand we are dealing with the NCAA and they are dumb enough to punish KU for listening to them when they said he was cleared to play. Only way this could have affected KU would be if he just happened to commit to KU and then after a friendly call from someone in Lawrence his grades changed. In that case any punishment would probably be reasonable.

As for the accusation of players getting paid, well you just going to have to deal with it when you have someone like World Wide Wes admittedly influencing these kids to play at Memphis. Part of me wants to think whatever he does is illegal but I imagine the NCAA would take him down as fast as possible if they could so he must stay clean(or clean enough in CBB today).

Also I tend to shy away from a lot of threads on CP because of the fans of all team being idiots. Its almost a lock that in any thread like this a certain group of posters will flock to it and ruin any decent discussion.

I was all set for a 2010 rematch, but aside from being in the same bracket, I see no reason why we should have to wait another year.

I'm actually a little bit surprised that Wall would choose to go to Memphis over a school where he could get more touches and ensure his #1 pick in the NBA Draft.

I'm playing here a little bit, and the likelihood of Cal leaving has gone down over the year as he's had more success with this team and his recruits. But he was gone (to Arizona) at the start of the season, the only question was whether the UA AD could drum up enough support among boosters to deliver his paycheck (which is very, very big).

But don't kid youself, Cal isn't an immoveable object at Memphis.

It's no coincidence that Cal hired Josh Pastner away from Arizona. He built a bridge to the program. The question is did it work and is he still willing to cross it.

I think he is, but it will be harder now.

Kansas. Maybe Pitt. Those are the two job openings that have ever been worth worrying about, because they're both "home" to Cal.

Josh Pastner is an awesome assistant and recruiter. This is why he was hired. It's an amazingly convoluted conspiracy theory, and don't get me wrong, I admire you for presenting it. But holy Jesus.

He's the most beloved member of the community, makes 3.5 million dollars a year plus endorsements, and receives a massive incentive for staying through 2010. And he's going to drop the top 5 program built by his hands to leave for a has-been which already has its court named after the last guy who was there for any length of time? Sorry, not going to lose any sleep over that.

Not telling you to lose sleep. That earlier post was partly TIC.

But what I just told you is true, not merely a rumor. Cal REALLY wants the Arizona job. He was willing to take less money (but not much less) to get it.

The major influential Arizona boosters didn't want him at first, because of the questions around his ethics (WWW, etc). That's where Pastner helps, he's incredibily well regarded here as completely, disgustingly clean. As they have come around, oddly enough, so has Pitino.

Pitino wants the job too, and while Louilvillle was playing a game in Phx earlier this year, his wife visited Tucson to look at houses (true). The latest rumor is that we have an unoffical deal in place with RP (rumor, unconfirmed... probably not entirely true).

And had Cal not landed this sick class (no matter the suprising success so far), I'd still say he'd definately willing to leave. But it gets harder with this class.

So if I were to bet today, I'd say RP is 80% our next coach. At the start of the season, I'd have said that was impossible. And that Cal was ours if we wanted. Now Cal is less certain and RP is more certain.

Strange how these things work.

But hey, I'm just a guy on a message board. ;)

After scoring a game-high 28 points in top-seeded Lincoln's 86-80 victory over No. 9 Transit Tech in the PSAL "AA" quarterfinals, the senior guard crossed paths with Red Storm assistant coach Fred Quartlebaum as he walked out of Carnesecca Arena.

They had a brief exchange, with Quartlebaum telling Stephenson: "I can't talk to you, but let me say this ..." The coach then pressed his hands together, as if praying, and bowed in an obvious sign of homage.

Stephenson, the state's all-time scoring leader and counting, will be back at St.John's a week from today when the Railsplitters face Brooklyn rival Boys & Girls in the semifinals. It could be his last game in Fresh Meadows, or just one of many to come if Red Storm coach Norm Roberts gets his way.

If we use the definition of the OP, St. Johns is also cheating in recruiting.

So an Arizona fan is asserting that he knows Calipari better than a Memphis fan?

So, Arizona is just deciding which coach they'd rather have between Pitino and Calipari at this point? Um, yeah. And I though KU fans were arrogant and self absorbed. :D
