The Hy-Vee on 350 Highway has not had for a few months now. Excellent sauce, will definitely need some for some summer time cooking.

Not as good as the brisket, but still really good

Interesting. Ill have to change it up.

I should also add the fries taste different than what I remember. Without dipping them in BBQ sauce they tasted like those cheap pizzas you buy at the store minus the marina sauce.

Not to break any hearts, but OK Joe's is the culmination of a bunch of white folk from Johnson County. I have an old video with Jeff Stehney in the driveway of his Prairie Village home cooking up some Q that would become OK Joe's.

Lol, why would that break any hearts? They have locations in Olathe and Leawood, did anyone really think Oklahoma Joe's was the culmination of a bunch of black dudes from East Kansas City?

Guess what, Aaron Franklin is white to.

Good BBQ transcends race in KC. Black dudes and white dudes, all smoke like serious MoFo's in our town.

East Kansas City? Where is that? The NE side? Independence Avenue? Sugar Creek?

Good Q has always had a link to African Americans. Skinny white dudes kill it. That's all.

gblowfish 05-10-2013 03:57 PM

Actually, the East Side of KC is mostly Hispanic now. Everything from just East of downtown out to about Bennington Ave near the Blue River. Northeast HS and East HS, lots of Hispanics.

I drive back and forth on Truman Road to work every day right through it.

Just left Austin this morning and that is the second time in 2 weeks that Bob Dole has read that name. Bob Dole will have to try it when Bob Dole goes back later this month.

ROFL

I consider East KC to be East of Bruce Watkins Drive, South of Truman Road to 87th street.

Too narrow of a definition.

Lets hear it for bb's and Hillsdale Bank BBQ. Many bbq joints are good. Few are great. Borh of these approach greatness. HB for food. BB's for all the rest

Sorry, I'm not too savvy on my Missouri geography. I'm a Californian who was at a national sports car meet. We got to drive laps on the I-70 Speedway. All I know is that Zarda is among the best BBQ I've had. I don't know the GPS coords for it.

Funny that nobody else here has ever been to the Hickory Hut in Salina Kansas. Hole in the wall with meat and sauce to die for back in 2009. Who knows now but when I was there, it was just killer.

Blue Springs is about 15 minutes directly east of downtown Kansas City. There used to be a Hickory Hut around KC, IIRC. Not sure if it was the same place or not.

I was born 25 miles from Salina, in McPherson. I've eaten at the Hickory Hut many many times. It started out as just a little piece of shit mobile home selling BBQ sammiches in the 80's. But the BBQ was decent. It got a lot better as time went on, but even after all these years it would still be pretty far down the list compared to KC places. It's still there, I ate there last summer, and still drive by it pretty frequently.
