The problem is simple. Smith is playing scared because he gets hit often, and doesn't stay in the pocket and make throws at the right time. If line improves, and Alex mentally gets past that, things change.

Smith gets hit often because he can't read defenses presnap, and almost certainly has never even heard of "progressions".

He gets hit often because he plays scared.

Are you reeruned?

Alex isn't mentally getting past shit. He's damaged goods. He was damaged goods before he even came here.

Reid hired a spread coordinator and yet still relies on a traditional huddle wco.

At this point you just say **** it, recognize the limitations of your QB, and I would push for more no huddle and hurry up. Alex can't make reads and progressions and he's God awful at spotting the hot route. If you can't read the defense then at least try to catch them off guard.

Cincinnati is the better team, playing at home, against an opponent coming off a short week that has a terrible quarterback.

Be objective ffs.

They aren't really better though. Schedule fell there way early though.

I am talking about the idea that he's scared to get hit. I agree the guy doesn't throw in tight spots at that to me is the biggest problem with our ol. He has to hit receivers before their break, not after they're comfortably open. Until that happens, his release is way too slow

He's scared of taking sacks. I don't think he minds getting hit that much.

Oh Peej. If we were playing minus the QB I am with you.

A team is comprised of 60% QB now days.

Dalton against a pass rush is Alex

Again, if he was afraid of sacks or pressure he would get rid of the ball right away even if that meant throwing picks. He's not struggling right now because of the pass rush. He's struggling because he's scared to throw the ball.

Improving the ol isn't going to do dick to improve him. He will still hold onto the ball too long and take too many sacks.

Are people really white knighting the chiefs?

Smith isn't playing scared. He just isn't a very good QB.

Disagree. He's not a qb that plays with swagger or an ounce of confidence. Because he's scared to get hit. See end of half Hail Mary run for a first down...nobody was around him and he ****ing tucked and ran like a bitch.

He didn't throw the hail Mary because he's afraid to throw the ball. Not because he was afraid to get hit. He's a tough QB. He's just a pussy when it comes to taking risks.

He has thrown many times to kelce, Maclin and kniles when they were double and triple covered. Problem is they are generally in the 2nd half.

i am fine him chucking that deep that way. Taking a chance. But his brain does not think, hey there are 3 guys on him. Someone else must be open. Some of those covered throws were 1st read.

rodgers was getting pressured. Difference is, he moves while looking for open guy.

What we are talking about here is the reason he only throws high percentage passes and why he bails out of the pocket even when there's minimal pressure. He's terrified of turning the ball over.
