I have two 36 count boxes for sale :)

Coogs 04-15-2025 05:44 PM

The last box of twelve in the house were eaten tonight for Taco Tuesday! Sad day! But damn they were tasty!!!

Now what to do going forward?

Probably going to try Tostitos Cantina Thin Chips in a taco salad made basically the same way as we made taco's.

These were always mid for me, it's just most shells are garbage which made them more attractive. Perez were always great but you have to go to Whole Paycheck foods to get them now

Opened up a box of the yellow corn tonight. Had six tacos and they were amazing. That La Victoria Salsa Bravo is a top notch taco sauce.

The best taco shells by far.

I really had no idea what the following these shells had. One would think someone would try to make a similar product or purchase the rights to the recipe. I was more of an Art's or Perez shell because it was closer to what my mom made using Spanish Gardens corn tortillas and a pot of hot oil with taco tongs.

My kids grew up with La Tiera because they were easy to find in the grocery.

I just looked and I have a still in plastic box of 12. Don't know if I should sell them or eat them.

My bad I didn't know Perez was no more, well I guess we'll have to start using tortilla chips and make Taco Salad.

There is a ray of hope

La Tiara taco fans hopeful brand can return by summer after court sale
Popular taco shell and seasoning company has strong following online after brand vanishes from store shelves.

Gladstone Food Products, La Tiara’s parent company, stopped production when it no longer pay creditors after an expansion, according to Eric Moraczewski, Founder and CEO of NMBL Strategies.

Moraczewski, a court appointed receiver, must now act on behalf of the court to find the highest bidder for Gladstone Food Products, which owes more than $5,000,000 to creditors according to Missouri court filings.

“They tried to expand their business. They tried to build a pretty massive new facility attached to their current facility,” Moraczewski said. “That got away from them probably a little bit due to Covid and costs rising and everything and timing.”

Moraczewski said buyers from across the country have expressed interest in the La Tiara brand.

Buyers have until May 15 to submit sealed bids, which start at $6 million.

A live auction for the top three bidders will take place May 19.

“I think my hope is by late summer, people will start seeing, especially locally, back on the shelves,” Moraczewski said. “Obviously that's going to be up to the ultimate buyer.”

He said delays may happen if a potential buyer wants to expand construction already started, which could slow the manufacturing process.

Bob McMahon, President of InterCity Direct LLC, told KMBC that Gladstone Food Products owes his company more than $13,000 for trucking services for the La Tiara brand.

He said he is now working with his accounting team to file a claim to recover that money in court before the sale.

“It does give us a little bit of hope,” he said.

Gladstone Food Products also owes other creditors including Commerce Bank, a plumbing company, an electric company, and a packing company, according to court documents.

Meanwhile, Doug Newton, a Northland resident has about 20 boxes of La Tiara taco shells remaining.

He bought two cases in February from a local Price Chopper when he heard the brand would no longer remain stocked.

“I'm hoping, you know, that maybe we ride it out long enough that they somebody, some way, it works out where they come back in business,” Newton said.
