Sound like its been a Happy Birthday Royals win, black jelly beans, baklava, gooey German chocolate cake. Jelly Belly black beans? Because those are pretty good. HBD Ed.
|
How's everything going Ed?
|
I am at the cancer center today awaiting treatment and I have some not so good news. I looked up and saw a familiar face in the center today, waiting on the docs like me. It was Jayice Pearson. I said hello to him and asked if he was Jayice and he said yes, then asked how I was doing. He seems upbeat and looks good, so maybe it is early on with treatments or his cancer is not that bad, but I didn't ask. I thought maybe the "what are you in for" would be prying so I just asked how he was doing after I said I was doing well so far.
|
Keep fighting.
|
I'm hungry so when the lunch lady came by, I asked for a ham sandwich. It's on disgusting white bread! Even with the mustard I put on, I am about to choke on every bite. How can such flavorless bread be so blasted hard to chew? Feh. That is it. I am bringing my own lunches from now on.
|
You don't like white bread? LOL
|
I don't know why that's funny to me. I guess because I've never heard of anyone not liking it.
I prefer wheat, myself. |

Give me a ham sandwich on a dark black pumpernickel rye swiss cheese and quality spicy mustard and far as I know thats all ya need right there.

The Pepperidge Farms eyes are not to bad. Also the grocery store bakeries can be surprisingly good. Sam's club had a good one once. |
Where is the love for Jayice? I haven't seen him since this morning in the lobby where I sit before blood draws and waiting to get called to see the doc.
|
Nobody remembers Jayice? Number 24, played for Marty, 7 career INTs, a few sacks. He was not a great CB, got burned by Elway a lot (but then didn't they all on this team?)
|
I remember and you describe his career to a tee. But always seemed a good dude and a Chief to the core. Hope he is ok maybe he was there doing charity work. If it is cancer treatments I will let him do as he see'e fit I guess. We all have degrees of privacy.
Prayers to everyone going through this disgusting disease. Hope in my lifetime they figure this shit out and wipe it from the planet. |

And as for me this morning, I am parched and hungry, don't feel nauseated like I did yesterday, although it was about a 2 on the 10 points of pain and suffering scale. I am going to make a late breakfast and down my various medications. I don't feel as weak and slow as I did after the treatment either and the rash has not come roaring back yet, but I know what to expect if it does, so that is something in my favor. |
Jayice is a little before my time, My earliest memory of the Chiefs is the rain game they played against Seattle in 98 I think? But anyways sending my thoughts and good vibes his way and to you to Ed. Cliche I know but keep fighting and bring better food with ya LMAO

You should ask a nurse if it is true that white bread causes cancer.. since you don't want to catch that, on top of all your other problems! ;)

Crap... I am seeing hairs falling off my head. I hope it's just a few.
|
I still have strands of hair falling out, but I am not looking like Telly Savalas yet. I get the pump unhooked in 4 hours and can take a shower again for the next 12 days. So I am happy about that!

I have lots left, and it's too soon to tell if I will look like Ming the Merciless. Just got to wait and see. But, I am FREE of the pump now! 12 of days of being able to shower instead of just washing my hair in the sink! I can even take a bath with some Epsom salt if I want now.
|
I got a test result notification email and it showed that my last CEA level was 4.7, which is lower than it has been since I saw a reading of 4.0 back in March, I think it was. 3.0 or lower is what people without cancer have in their bloodstream. I was thinking about how strange it is that aside from cancer, most would envy my health. My good friend is currently having his gall bladder removed and I am waiting on a call to come pick him up and take him home. Another friend just 2 weeks after my surgery had his appendix go BOOM.
Life is tough enough without health complications, but what can we do but try? |
hey Ed my name is Bill. do you have a recipe for cabbage and potatoes i can make with pork.
|
I don't generally get too fancy with potatoes except when I make German potato salad with a warm beer dressing. What sort of cabbage, red or white? I have a nice northern European recipe for red cabbage.
|
is it a vinegar/ sour potato salad?

if you don't mind, what iis the root vegetable Danes eat? |
Danes love their potatoes. It is the main thing served with most any meal, be it fish, pork, chicken, beef, or wild game. German potato salad does have vinegar in the mix, yes.
|
German potato salad is pretty good. I don't care for regular potato salad.

Okay, NOW I am getting back on track. A couple of nights ago, this particular treatment I am on hit me with a highly annoying all night bout with the toilet. At least it was not the runs this time, like I had a couple of weeks ago. So far, once per treatment, I get a colon clearing attack over the course of one night. I do not know where it comes from, since it would seem I'd have had to eat a small hippo by myself to go so much. I got 4 hours of sleep the night before last, from 6:30 am to 10:30 am, and I was unable to stay up to watch the end of the game last night.
I slept very well, about 10 hours last night, and I am hungry and ready to get outside and walk around the pasture again. I did that yesterday in the drizzle and loved it. Since I have to avoid sunlight due to my treatment and two of the meds I am on, a gray drizzly day was just the thing I needed to get out and do a little work, get some fresh air in me, and enjoy my favorite season. Yes, I got wet, but I was loving it. I'll whip up a big pot of chicken soup today with organic carrots, celery, onion, garlic, and parsley to enjoy for dinner while watching the second game of the Series. Today is going to be a good day! Let's get another victory, Royals! But this time, please just win it by the 9th, okay? |
I got mixed results today from my blood test. My white cell count has taken a huge hit so I didn't get any treatment today. Even my red cells are a bit low. Glucose was very high, but it was less than 90 minutes after breakfast when I had the blood draw done. My CEA, however, was great! It's the colon cancer marker in my bloodstream and it was 3.2 today. 3.0 or lower is what people without colon cancer have. The treatment is killing the gunk in my blood that the tumor released. My hair is still falling out, but I am not bald yet. I do have a very visible part along the center of my scalp, but I have lots of hair left yet.
Doc told me not to go to the parade since my white cells are so low. I can't have the masses hacking and sneezing and snotting in my general direction now. |
Great news about your low CEA. Wish you the best man.

Thanks! Just don't get too close when I am swinging the axe!
|
Great to hear!
Watch how you swing that ax! :) |
Good news about your CEA man. Hopefully it stays down.
|
Thanks! If the current treatment keeps working, then it will be at 3.0 or less. The only thing left from the colon cancer is the gunk it spread into my bloodstream. After that, then there is just my liver to worry about, and that is the worst of the cancer in there.
|
Awesome news Ed, keep swinging da ax my friend just don't pull a Josh Scobee
|
Hmmm, I don't get the reference, but if I had to guess... he whacked a teammate by accident once?

I am going in for possible treatment today. Doc B sent me home last week since my white cell count was very low. I will have the blood draw first as usual, but no visit with the doc or the nurse practitioner, and go right up to the treatment room. Having this new schedule sucks since it means I will have treatment on the Tuesdays before Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, I pitched a stink over having to get the pump unhooked on Thanksgiving Day since I am the one who cooks the entire dinner. They relented and I will go in on Monday that week and have my pump unhooked on Wednesday instead.
If I don't have enough white cells today and have to skip the treatment again until next week, that might not be so bad since that would put me back on the original schedule. I will find out after 12:15 pm today. |
You guys keep fighting your asses off. I lost my mom Sunday to lung cancer.

I am getting treatment as I type. My platelets are high enough at 128, but still low. The range is 150 to 400. Last week, I had a measly 83. I am lucky I didn't get sick. What sucks today is that I got started on the IV bags at 2 pm and it will take 4 hours or more. I am already starvin' and told my buddy Rod if he really cared, he'd schlepp a pizza over here for me.
Side note: the old man who just came out of the bathroom across the hall from me tore the hell out of it. Good God, I need more anti-nausea meds, stat! *urrrrfff* Cancel the pizza for now, Rod. Damn, that is just not natural. *gag* |

I sicced a nurse on it and she had some spray. I walked down the hall with my IV tower and waited a while before coming back to my room. I was a bit wobbly on my feet, but I think the spray won the battle. My appetite took a huge hit but it will slink back eventually. I used to have colon cancer before they chopped it out of me, so I can sympathize to a point with that old dude, but at least my colon wasn't rotting!

I am glad I am home now and not at the center how I am feeling now. Fatigue has me in a vise grip and my nausea level is about a 3 on the 10 point scale and if it was 5 or so, I'd have the ralf bucket handy. That old man with colon rot would have had me hurling across the room if I was there now and he was, too. I took an anti-nausea med a few minutes ago and I hope it kicks in soon. The new treatment I am on always makes me feel a bit sick, but I was off for 3 weeks and not 2, so it's a bit harsher this time. My head and face feel hot and clammy, but not hot to the touch. I am taking my temp right now. Yes, with an oral thermometer. I know how some of you think...
|
Quote:
|
Thanks! My temp was 98.3, so that was good. My med is starting to knock the nausea back and I am off to bed soon. Damned chemo.
|

My nausea levels are almost non-existent this morning and my fatigue level is improving. The stuff seems to hit my thighs and shoulders the worst. A hearty breakfast should give me a boost. Then at 4 pm, I go to be free of the pump!

I hope and pray that my current treatment is over with. This has been so rough on me. I was fatigued for the past 4 days and it passed today, but I was plagued with 11 or 12 attacks of the runs in the past 2.5 hours and if someone had actually shoved a Coke bottle sideways up my butt, it would explain the pressure I feel inside. I am hurting and not happy! I hope I don't end up going to the hospital tonight.

I think the worst has passed and now my lower intestine is just a bit sore. I might be able to get to sleep and that will certainly help. Doc B is going to hear about this latest stuff next week! Ed doesn't like this treatment and is ready to move to something else. :grr:
|
keep it up Ed!
|
Go Chiefs.
