Not really. We just had a tournament that was historically chalk. Whether or not that is the norm to come with NIL/portal remains TBD. But this Final Four has the potential, assuming Monday night isn’t a blowout, to be one of the best Final Fours we’ve had overall from the 2 semi games to the title.

The team that beat Duke went from being a mid-major to a back-to-back Big 12 champions

The only things that need to change with NIL is to make it more transparent and actual contracts with the school. Portal should open after the natty and crackdown on tampering in season.

Not remotely the same. Marlins haven’t done anything of note aside from those 2 years. Meanwhile, Florida went to multiple Final Fours and second weekends.

Bearcat 04-06-2025 08:30 AM

I skipped through much of the Duke/Houston game because it was past bedtime and I was just waiting to see if Houston would make it a game... holy shit, that was an incredible ending. And it's not even like Houston was perfect down the stretch, they made a couple mistakes and Duke still choked it away.

Florida/Auburn was interesting in that it had to be some of the dumbest shot selection I've seen across the board in a game before, but still highly entertaining and that's obviously what teams do these days... I think at ~13-12 early in the game, Florida dude just chucked an off balance Caitlin Clark type shot from way beyond the 3 point line like there was 5 seconds left in the game, yet some of those (not that one) were actually going down. LMAO

What a game! Held Duke to just 67 points. Had seats about 10 rows behind UH bench. They never quit. Sampson preaching that at every T.O. down the stretch. "MAKE PLAYS!", "D-UP!", "BELEIVE IN YOUR CULTURE!" Etc...
Team is all HEART!

Go COOGS!

Sure reminded me of that. The players said the same thing. Cryer said they mentioned it during the time out, before they stole the inbounds pass and scored, to pull to within 1 point. Unbelieveable! Just uncanny how similar the two games were.

Bearcat 04-06-2025 09:26 AM

Probably a slightly better experience than the last time I was in San Antonio for the Final Four, which was the KU equivalent of the Chiefs' 3-peat attempt. LMAO

It probably helped them down the stretch that they knew they had come back from a worse situation.

Yeah, saw a comment about how Duke didn't have much adversity this season, and Houston's just the type of team that will pressure you in ways you aren't used to or prepared for.

They will hang a banner no doubt. It’s literally the highest achievement for corn basketball ever. And their basketball program is less embarrassing than their football program somehow

Pepe Silvia 04-06-2025 05:14 PM

That Crown Tournament is like the dumb reading group that they used to have in school.

This is going to be the future.

There will be an NCAA Tournament but when the Power 5 leave they will just compete in their own Tournament where the athletes get a prize/money for winning.

One of them will figure it out by the second half and just wear the other down inside. My money is on Houston at the moment. Their defense is absolutely gross

DrRyan 04-07-2025 07:25 PM

Yeah, 8 forced turnovers so far... yet only 4 points off those turnovers. Gotta make them pay, because Florida will (and has started) making some of those dumb 3s, too.

Felt like Houston was primed to run away with it. 3 point game at the half.

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 04-07-2025 07:45 PM

I don't think I've ever seen a worse shooting team than Houston. 2 for 14 from 3 and there were at least three air balls in there. One of the makes was an accidental bank shot that went in lulz.

Goaltending was missed leading to a leak out and 3. That sequence makes it look a little closer than it was. Combine that with Houston missing shots and you get this

MAG 04-07-2025 07:47 PM

If that was a foul on Flagg the other night, every Houston big would foul out of the game.
