If I recall correctly, I think we scored a lot of runs with 2 outs in Game 4 against he Giants (at least early in the game). For the Vargas at bat you mentioned, in 2015, I think Ned PH's Vargas for Willingham. That was the moment to go for the kill, and Ned passed to preserve our arms for Game 5.
...But unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity that we had in Game 5, as Bumgarner got in the way.
Funnily enough, flash forward to Game 4 of the WS a year later, and Ned pulls Young early to PH Morales in a lower leverage situation. Even pitching Hoch a second night in a row with Game 5 looming (where he pitched two innings for the W).
Say what you want about Edgar, but he managed the hell out of the 2015 WS (Game 3 aside).
