The reason people are still positive is that he was only a backup for two Heisman Trophy winners and a one-time NFL MVP and two-time Super Bowl MVP.

But that doesn't say much. Cause one of the people he backed up for is Matt Leinart. He obviously has some upside to be named the starter after Brady went down, and to stay #2 on the depth chart after Palmer and Leinart. And also to be drafted even having not played a single game as a college QB.

All I'm saying is that he was below-average as a downfield passer when he had two Pro Bowl wide receivers.

This year he proved it was no fluke.

So saying "his accuracy was pretty good" isn't really true. And you can't really compare him to Rodgers or Manning.

But go ahead and attack me.

If Cassel was 23 or 24 and was picked from a college team I would like him a whole lot better. He's just another back up or retread QB making his start for the KC Chiefs like Bono, Huard. They say 'give him a break this is his first year being a QB in Kansas City'. How many people would be pissed if we drafted a 27 year old out of college? That's basically what we did is draft a 27 year old with only one season of experience out side of high school.

He had a good season with the Patriots on a Super Bowl team. He would not have had a shot at playing that season if it wernt for Bernard Pollard taking out Tom Brady. We most likely wouldn't have even heard about Cassel if it wern't for Bernard Pollard. Cassel should wright Bernard a thank you card for getting him his shot to start.

Now then, the opening drive against Denver was very empressive. We waited all season for that. If he could do that more consistantly & move the chains on 3rd down I can learn to like him. It's going to take alot for me to trust in him however, next year he is going to be 28 and should be in his prime NO EXCUSES!! Next year he should not be treated like a rookie, he should be treated as the leader of the team, it should fall on his shoulders.

There was speculation that he was going to be cut, at one point, in NE.

Let's not pretend that he was always being groomed as the next star in line.

Last year, for a player who hadn't started in college at all and who did not start in the NFL for 7 years** his completion percentage wasn't bad. That's all I said.

I think milkman might be the most fair in his assessment of Cassel by saying that he could become a decent game manager. And mm is probably right.

Still, I'm sorry, how many times do we have to go down this road?

Those numbers would certainly indicate that he is only marginally behind those guys, nice. I wish I could believe that, from watching him though. I just can't.

How often when one of the receivers actually does complete the catch, do you see the ball put where they can catch in stride? How often are they having to contort, behind themselves to make the catch.

I agree, he had a lot of dropped balls this year, but I watched his entire body of work ( the 15 games) and was kind of depressed, with what I saw of him.

I want to believe in Cassel, damn I do. He has a hell of a long way to go.

If he brought his hot wife or girlfriend to the game and have her blow a random fan to make
up for a tough loss.

I think five percent is a pretty huge difference. And seven percent behind Eli.

Anyone that watched Rodgers play this year, if you think Cassel is only marginally behind him...you need some serious help.

So do you think all of our passing problems rest solely in his hands, or that he's just the main part of it?

Do you think improving his pass protection and/or getting him some receivers who aren't as drop-happy would help him out? If so, do you think it would be enough to make a difference?

One had far better o-line play, that's for sure.

Rodgers actually completed 49 percent of his passes over 10 yards the year before.

His first year as a starter. Just like Cassel.

He regressed in the second half of the season with much improved o-line play.

Cassel's passing production improved with better offensive line and receiver player.

His TD-INT ratio plummeted. So yeah, I'd say that's on him.
