judging a 23 year old QB who was raw coming out of college by his W/L record

like I said, us Chiefs fans witnessed 1 of our 2 wins against Cam's Panthers and Cam played really well. Threw 3 TD's against 0 picks and ran for 80 yards.

He also ended his season on a 4 game winning streak. All he needs is a coach to adhere to his strengths and he can be every bit as good as a Colin Kaepernick.

Shit, the reason I'm so high on Kaepernick is because his head is screwed on straight. The only flaw Newton has is the fact he may never "get it."

I do think he has the intelligence to get it, he just has to want to. Still, definitely worth the risk of our #1 in 2012 for this hypothetical scenario that would never happen.

Carolina wouldn't trade Cam for anything. Anything short of a QB like Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck or Colin Kaepernick that is. Again, unrealistic.

But yeah...in this unrealistic hypothetical trade scenario, you absolutely trade the #1 in 2012 for Cam Newton.

It's not just about his W/L record. Or the fact that he celebrates a really stupid ass celebration in a blowout. It's both of those things, and the interview with Gruden about how stupid he is. It's the fact that all of the markers on Newton coming out of college about him being a diva and dumb and a headcase are true.

I'm all for taking a QB with the first overall. But Newton is a proven commodity. A proven shitty one.

But but but, we didn't draft Cam!!!!

I don't care if we draft a QB or acquire one, I just want to see wins, trading #1 for cam would be a no brainer

Dude you can love him all you want. But the fact is, none of you can give any valid reasons why we'd give up the top pick for him. He hasn't won. He hasn't been some kind of stat extraordinaire. He's got an average QB rating, and he's been exposed as being pretty dumb and self centered. In other words, not only does he appear to not have all the most important physical tools, but he doesn't have the mental ones either.

Neither has Geno

R8ers, who do you want the Raiders to pick? Say they had the #1 pick.

1.) NFL Single season rushing TD record for a QB (14). He did this as a rookie.
2.) Threw for 400 yards in his first NFL game (also was the most yards in a single game by a rookie QB).
3.) Most passing yards by a rookie quarterback.
4.) Only player in NFL history to throw for over 4000 yards and rush for over 500.

This is what our fan base is afraid of.

Average QB rating. TD to int rating. Below average completion %.

Seriously, who gives a shit about rushing yards by a rookie QB? I think that actually goes against him than for him. Three of your "data points" there are related to his rushing.

So thanks for playing and making my point.

That is, ASSUMING that the front office and Andy Reid have judged that no QB is worth the first pick... Cam is LOADED with talent, but... until he puts the mental part of the game into play, it ISN'T a slam dunk.

I don't think Cam ever will completely master the mental part of the game. In other words, he isn't ever going to understand the game as well as someone like Brady or P. Manning. However, if he would at least work to develop that part of his game and was able to improve to the point where he is half way between where he is now and someone like P. Manning, he'd be elite. He made some strides late in the season last year. I think he'll continue to improve that part of his game, so I agree I'd make the trade.

This is kind of like asking me if I'd bang a supermodel if she offered. Whatever my answer is, no supermodel is going to offer.

Molitoth 02-17-2013 05:10 PM

I suppose it depends on what the Chiefs are going to do with that #1 pick.

I would take a chance on Geno Smith/Tyler Wilson at #1, but if the chiefs decide to go with any other QB... I'd rather trade the pick for Cam Newton.
