If you don't want to wait in line for a Z-man - try the Big D at Danny Edwards. I think it's better. :O It's all top-of-the-crown brisket, which means it's really juicy and succulent, sliced super thick. Mmmmmmmm.

Danny's is awesome too IMO

I'm not the biggest fan of Oklahoma Joes, but they are by far the most consistent. And as many have said LC is bi-polar, one day it's great the next time you feel sorry for the dinosaur you just burned driving there.

If you aren't fortunate enough to live near a Joe's location, you can order it online!

Yeah, I saw that too and on another special about BBQ. This place has gotten some national publicity.

Let me ask you KC folks, though - is it really better than the old legends Arthur Bryant's and Gates?

Bryant is underrated, Gates overrated (great sauce & sides though), z-man is the truth.

New World Order 05-08-2016 05:40 PM

1. Bryant's

2. Joe's

3. Rosedale/Jack Stack

TimBone 05-08-2016 05:41 PM

Gates is overrated as ****.

KC BBQ is like politics or religion. You'll never get a clear consensus. All the places have some things they do well, some things not as well as others. If you've never had KC BBQ, you can't go wrong starting with Joe's or Jack Stack. Both are safe choices for novices.

Great meat (spectacular burnt ends, really) but I didn't dig the sides.

They also have their own version of the Z-man, btw.

Old thread bump but I finally have a house again and am looking at smokers and saw there is an Oklahoma Joe line of Smokers. Does anyone have/had one and know if they are any good or should I look elsewhere? They do get really good reviews.

Q39 to me has alot in common with Carolina style bbq, Cole slaw on the bbq, and the vinegar based sauce. I'm not a fan of it.

But that's why I love it... It's not what you get here, nobody can question that, but it's what I grew up with and it's dang yummy (too).
