Donger, do you know how they calculate the national average in terms of octane? I mean, "normal" gas out here is only 85 octane, where 87 is the norm pretty much everywhere else. So does our price for 85 go into the equation or 87?

The national retail average that I post is based on the average lowest octane rating regionally. So, 85 goes into the equation for us.

Gas is 3 times as much in other countries. I think we have it pretty good. In reality, the gas price adjusted to how much your money is worth is pretty similar to what it was in the 70's.

It was about 10 years ago when I last saw gas for under $1.00 a gallon. I was in Jefferson City, and even at the time it was unusual enough that I took a photo of the sign. I think I still have it somewhere.

I was working at a convenience store 11-12 years ago. I remember the first time gas ever went up over a dollar per gallon. People were freaking out...lol.

I'm still waiting on to see gas below $3 here in Hiawatha KS, was 3.23 yesterday. Yet I can drive to St. Joe MO about 40 miles and see it below $3 dollars. I know KS has a little higher taxes than MO, just by a few cents. How can this gouging be justified?

let them continue to kill demand.

i fear that if it gets too low, people will revert to old habits thus renewing demand. i say f em. ill keep carpooling and driving less and ill just take my savings and put it towards other stuff...like the CC bills racked up paying for high gas...

This is stunning news:

U.S. crude inventories jumped by 8.1 million barrels last week while gasoline stocks surged 7.2 million barrels, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly inventory report. Both increases far exceeded expectations. Analysts surveyed by energy research firm Platts had expected a 1 million barrel drop in crude supplies and a 2 million barrel build in gasoline stocks.

E85 gas mileage sucks compared to regular gasoline. You know that. In order for it to be a commercially viable alternative to gasoline, it has to be sold for a substantially lower price. Again, I'm sure you know that. Otherwise, nobody but a straight up fool would buy it.

I'm really hoping that when the election is over you'll stop being so needlessly obtuse and combative about EVERYTHING. :shake:

Hard to say. Our demand reduction is a large part of it, but is that a reduction a result of us slipping into recession?

Chicken, egg.

I still believe that crude was vastly over-valued above $100, though.

Not nobody. It's also 100+ octane. If you compare it to the cost of 104 octane unleaded gasoline, its a way better value despite the reduced gas mileage.

I pick up over 75 horsepower by running an extra 6psi boost on E-85. It's a great product for the forced induction folks. I hope it stays around.

I understand what you're saying about commercial viability as 99.9% of people don't care about the octane. But for apples to apples, it's fair to compare the price to 104 octane gasoline.
