I think your current bids still count. You just can't raise bids.

We'll need some tweaking on this because you can cheat a little and keep more than 53 on your roster for a while if you're done bidding on free agents, so it's an honor system right now to keep your roster at or below 53.

I say all this not knowing cdcox's actual programming, but I think that's how it works. Will the first person who hits a roster size of 54 let us all know if we don't hear from cdcox before then?

noa 06-12-2013 10:52 AM

I'm not wild about the roster management after you sign a free agent. I just signed a guy out of desperation and would rather not have to cut anyone on my roster right away because my new signee could eventually get the axe. This happens in the real world with shitty players all the time, and just happened to Tavaris Jackson. I'd rather wait until free agency is done to have to trim our rosters back down.

Heh. I'm kind of realizing that, too. I think in the permanent system we'll actually allow that because we'll have a second free agency wave after the final roster cuts to 53. I think that's what cdcox and I have decided anyway. I need to go check my notes.

Now that I think about it, can you just cut the new FA immediately if you want?

Hammock Parties 06-12-2013 04:32 PM

The CB market is just insane. 60 for a 35-year old CB!??!?

Nice to see some signings roll in. I like the Demar Dotson signing for only 25.

Seeing how this has progressed is starting to change my strategy. The market dynamics have been a bit different than I expected.

Signed my first free agent! I'm hoping David Nelson pays off in 2013.

Yes, this is what happens.

HERE COME THE TACOS

SERIOUS MONEY ABOUT TO THROW DOWN

Rain Man 06-12-2013 09:03 PM

In the next 24 hours Springfield might be turning over 1/3 of their roster.

Hammock Parties 06-12-2013 09:05 PM

Question: do we have two absentee owners? What's happening to them?

(Sigh.) Yeah. I wish people would let me know if they're not going to do anything. In the long run we're setting up some rules to handle this type of situation and auto-run abandoned teams. In the short run they're kind of hosed and at some point I'll step in or bring in another owner. I've pm'ed those owners but haven't heard back from them about whether I can transfer ownership.

Hammock Parties 06-12-2013 09:41 PM

I'd be willing to take over ownership of another team, with the caveat that I'm not bidding on any free agents I want for my original team. :D

Maybe someone from the AAA league wants a team in the bigs.

You want one in League 2? Let me talk to cdcox. We've got a few owners over there who are doing the absentee thing.

Hammock Parties 06-12-2013 10:36 PM

**** YOU FORT WORTH! YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO BED AND LET THE TIMER EXPIRE!

Yeah why not. Can't hurt.

MagicHef 06-12-2013 11:25 PM

I'll take a league 1 team, if there's one available.

Hammock Parties 06-13-2013 06:42 AM

T-minus 6 hours on Big Dick Sherman!

Fansy the Famous Bard 06-13-2013 07:23 AM

ya, it's getting frustrating... Have a bid on 2 guys that both got down to less than 10 hours... one was down to less than 3 hours... Was the first and initial bid on both them.. .someone snipes them just to keep from signing, obviously because we are competing on other players. Don't get mad when it happens back at ya now.

This is why it needs to be private.

I don't know about everything being private.

The timer should perhaps be private. That seems unrealistic.

I think at least one of those had to be me. Look, there are certain positions that I'm targeting. I can't let a guy go off the board at a steal in those positions until I have spots filled. Just because you bid on him first doesn't mean I haven't been tracking him.

Good luck signing anybody now. :p

Ha. I'm having a shitty enough time getting people signed already (except for a backup TE).

I can tell you I'm not targeting specific owners. Even if I were that big of a dick, I don't have the money to push anybody around.

I'm probably tipping my hand a bit here, but this is all for fun. I've got 114 players on my target list, and I'm not deviating from that list. There have been a couple of guys pop up that I missed in my original evaluation, but I haven't chased them.

Of those targets, about 30 of them are at positions where I need to make sure I land SOMEONE, so I'm only going to let the clock expire on them if I think they're currently overvalued. Dunbar is a great example. I'm pretty thin at OLB, and I have Dunbar rated #1 on my board. But he's not worth 125, IMO, so I no plans to bid any further.

DJ's left nut 06-13-2013 08:54 AM

At this point I would appreciate it if everyone would just bid me up on all the rest of my players so I can go bid on Richard Sherman again.

Get rid of the clock, it's ****ing this process up.

allen_kcCard 06-13-2013 08:59 AM

I kind of like the process as is so far. I'd like to see some mechanism to set some starting marker prices in players before the bidding starts, just to get the lower numbers covered faster, but I like the rest of it, and I haven't even signed anyone yet.

rageeumr 06-13-2013 09:10 AM

Anybody else find it amusing that a retired guy went for $15?

Crap! Wasn't me was it? /runs to see if he accidentally signed anyone.

lostcause 06-13-2013 09:26 AM

This is like a fantasy football auction. In general the first round of high dollar players takes a while to come off the board, then once prices are set and money starts to get depleted the players fly off.

Yup....this is a game in itself.

I am now the new owner of the Fort Wayne Ducks, Come at me.

allen_kcCard 06-13-2013 10:21 AM

Ah, I was wondering where the hell bids started coming from from another Fort.

TambaBerry 06-13-2013 10:24 AM

Ya this guy has been dormant for a while, atleast judging by his draft picks.

ChiefAshhole20 06-13-2013 10:27 AM

I have yet to bid on a player based on the owner, I'm strictly going off of the value that player would bring to my team. I'm not sure why any one would use their money on a player just because of the owner, maybe whatever reason you're giving them to want to **** with you, you should probably refrain from doing that in the future? I'm having a blast, and I only had like 220 to start with. Maybe if I had more money, I'd partake in these kinda shenanigans though...

Hammock Parties 06-13-2013 10:27 AM

DJ's left nut 06-13-2013 01:01 PM

And congrats on Myers; nice pickup. I thought about throwing some late money at him, especially given how well the Giants use their TEs, I just couldn't bring myself to do it with Miller on the squad (and no word from anyone on wanting to trade for him).

MagicHef 06-13-2013 01:20 PM

Looks like I'll be joining this party as soon as the wise and timely cdcox gives me access.

In the meantime, would someone mind posting my roster (Ball Busters)?

DJ's left nut 06-13-2013 01:45 PM

I GOT A PLAYER!!!!!!!

Okay, so Chris Owens isn't exactly a brilliant pickup, but c'mon - that's a decent little slot CB for $1. I almost threw a few more $$ at him to get him signed for a 2nd year, but didn't want to start his clock over again.

Mostly I'm just happy that I get to cut DeMarcus VanDyke now. What a !@#$ing Raider that guy was.

I literally have 3 LBs who are still in football. I suppose I'll run a 4-3.

I find the discussions amusing in a sadistic sort of way.

And the observation that this is a game in itself is correct. It gets suspenseful when you're trying and trying to sign an area of need at one position and apparently others are having the same problem.

I react like a child every time I get outbid. I cursed aloud at my desk today. People have been leaving me alone because they assume I actually have some sort of real world problems.

Luckily it lasts about 30 seconds and then it passes.

Hammock Parties 06-13-2013 02:55 PM

I'm trying not to. I put in a Hixon bid with a few hours left because I didn't feel like paying the same amount for Stokely as I would for someone that will actually be in the league in 2013.

Otherwise, I'm trying to keep my bids on guys that I've bid on in the last 24 hours or have 24-48 hours left on them still.

And bidding up someone by $1 is bush league if it's within 24 hours of closing down.

But, you know, I was interested in him, and I've got money to burn.

Not ready to let him off off the board yet.

The pressure that I felt, knowing that my FA strategy was going to take a major turn if I threw that much money at one player; I vacillated for two days, and the clock forcing my hand was the real reason I committed to it.

Yeah, it sucks for the person getting outbid, but I wasn't going to go higher than I had to so the previous bidder felt better about it.

366 seemed like enough of a commitment.

But that's why the clock shouldn't be there.

Shit or get off the pot.

Like I said, you don't get to slow play NFL free agents. Sooner or later they'll sign what they in hand.

ChiefAshhole20 06-13-2013 04:24 PM

How about changing the minimum amount you have to bid depending on the time remaining?

That is kinda chicken shit if you wait until a hour left and then only up the bid one point, and would piss me off if it happened to me.

NFL free agents can have an offer pulled on them. These bids are set unless you are outbid... that's a big reaSon a real player takes a deal while he can sometimes.

Just make the clocks invisible.

Introduces an element of the unknown, which is ever present in NFL FA.

And as we don't have the privilege of pulling an offer (or a truly 'motivated' player), the only way we can duplicate that result is by having an invisible clock.

rageeumr 06-13-2013 04:37 PM

I am ok with the current setup, but I'd probably prefer the hidden clock as well.

In a stunning trade, the Denver Broncos have acquired CJ Spiller from the Fort Wayne Dukes in exchange for Reggie Bush, Sam Acho and Kenny Britt.

Pepper your anguses. 2012 Sandbox Season BELONGS TO ME.

I feel no guilt at all for upping a bid, regardless of the amount or the time left. My job is to make my football team better, and a higher bid means more money for the free agent. It's a business, and if I don't win I don't have a job.

Man, I could've really used CJ Spiller.

That said, with my game planning I could still probably win with 22 players off the street.

Duluth signs free agent KR Joe McKnight and PR Darius Reynaud, and cuts FS Reggie Smith and FS Jim Leonhard.

MagicHef 06-13-2013 05:09 PM

Hey, I'd like to start doing this FA thing, too.

In the meantime, would someone mind posting my roster (Ball Busters)?

OK, you have the Ballbusters.

noa 06-13-2013 07:48 PM

Hate to say this, but I got the "there is no such team" error again when trying to propose a trade.

Awesome, thank you.

Whoa. Someone I got for $8 in league 2 is currently $115 in league 1.

TambaBerry 06-13-2013 08:13 PM

Ya im not sure why Desmond Bryant went for that much. Maybe because of his famous picture and everyone knew his name?

He got a big contract in real life, too.

TambaBerry 06-13-2013 08:23 PM
