Majors found guilty and Marvel dropped him. Officially.

I love how the MCU failed in explaining Kang and building him up properly, relegating his appearances to both Loki seasons and Antman 3. Nobody was really afraid of Kang, you can understand that Thanos is much more intimidating of a main villain, but now Marvel gets a pass, gets to fire Majors, appear they're on the moral high ground in this whole thing and get time to get it right to try to rescue their failed decisions post Thanos. Wonder what this does to their slate in the future and if they push Avengers movies back to introduce the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom.

Doom is the natural choice for the Big Bad in Secret Wars, anyway. Kang never felt right to be that multiversal threat to me from the beginning. |

It took me a long time to find and buy the individual comics. I'm sure she'll enjoy it even if that's not the movie plot moving forward. I never watched Loki, or Antman 3, nor did I care enough about Kang way back when I used to collect comics to read his storyline, but it was a fun challenge hunting those down. |
Quote:
Kang is just a dude with advanced technology; whereas, Thanos is a super strong alien. Thanos is always going to be more imposing for that reason. Kang did wipe out countless timelines, though. His body count is higher than Thanos’ for sure. |
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes made Kang a threat.
Because they had good writers. |

"What IF...." season 2 kicked off. The first episode was pretty decent; a very dark and strong Blade Runner vibe.
They're going to release an episode a day up til New Year's Eve, I believe. |

I thought they were both awesome, really well done. I’ll watch 1602 next, for sure. Unfortunately those were the only three I was actually interested in but I’ll probably make my way through the others in time. |
The second What IF season wasn't as good on the whole as the first season but the finale makes up for it, especially the very last scene.

Watched The Marvels last night and was prepared for it to be horrendous based on what I read here. It wasn't half bad. Plenty of really funny moments and decent acting. Is it at the level of the best Marvel flicks? No, but it was better than the worst by a fair margin. So much better than Thor Love and Thunder.

It's not up now, but if it follows the three month rule it should be coming out around February 10th. I'm in the same boat, we said meh to seeing it in the theaters so we could watch it three months later.
|
I’m not going to hate on people who still like and watch all of marvel content, but what I can’t understand is how you actually manage to watch it all, not just from a time commitment standpoint but also general lack of excitement a lot of it generates. Seems like some of these series especially must feel like a chore at times.

I think people let 15 minutes of a 2 hour movie get to them a little much. It's like a Metacritic User Review that gives Spiderman 2 a 0/10 because of Miles' final battle suit promoted by Adidas.

That’s nice. But you don’t watch all of the content so my post doesn’t apply to you. Quote:

Add me to the group that didn’t think the Marvels was that bad. However, Loki is still the best mcu offering of 2023 and it’s really not even close.

Which isn’t all that bad. Loki was awesome.

I made the mistake of following the story just exclusively from the Secret Wars titles in '15. Since then, I've caught up on the extended stories throughout all the various other titles, and the story makes so much more sense after catching up like that. I wasn't particularly a fan after it wrapped up, but I appreciate it way more now having read through properly. Johnathan Hickman is a master storyteller for Marvel. |
X-Men 97 launches tomorrow 2AM CST. I'm ready...

Ugh, already hearing mentions of Jan 6th and "bigotry" from the first 2 episodes. Can these freaks just make something fun for once in their God damn lives!?!?!

Bigotry is politicized.....in a show about mutants. Got it.

The X-Men were created as an allegory for racism and xenophobia.
If you’ve ever watched or read anything X-Men related, it was “woke”. You just didn’t realize it.. strange that it bothers you now. I wonder why? |
I 100% understand the allegory of Xmen. I just think it's ****ing lame to invoke Jan 6th in a children's cartoon.
|
Like how they redid the intro but kept it the same outside of Morph and Bishop. Good shit.

Trying to kill a mutant at a UN trial is somehow equal to the Jan 6th shit?
Anyone saying that this is anything like Jan 6th is ****ing stupid and looking for a reason to bitch. |

I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was in for the nostalgia, but it was actually pretty good. I was a little worried about the voices given the age of the cast (and Wolverine in the trailer), but they were mostly fine. I felt like Rogue sounded a little old at times, but in fairness I might not have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it.
|
Good shit, nice to not have commercials, sucks to wait for an episode per week. I hope they leave some cool shit for the XMen movies when they eventually come out, this show takes some crazy ideas with their powers.
|
Holy shit. Storm vs the Sentinels in the desert LMAO
Show is awesome. Only thing I didn’t like is Wolverine’s voice and that’s easy enough to ignore.

Yeah I'm digging X-Men 97...hell of a start
Most of the cast back some newcomers too due to death or changes by original cast mates. Can't wait to see more. |
Enjoyed the first episode. The nostalgia was off the charts.

Magnetos belief of superiority isn't any better than the humans who are anti mutant because the false belief is that all of the opposite group are inherently bad. |

In any case, chitown hit the nail on the head. You underestimate the mental gymnastics an oppressor group will make to justify dehumanizing another. Racists don’t believe the only difference is skin color. |
And LOL at the dude who was crying about the Jan 6th reference the other day.
This was the most X-Menny X-Men episode that ever X-Menned. I wouldn’t even have linked it to Jan 6th because shit like that’s been happening in this franchise for decades now. I think homeboy was there at the Capitol on Jan 6th LMAO That’s the only explanation as to why you’d be butthurt about that |

It is certainly no Edmund Spenser allegory. |
I still think it circles back to the idea that bigotry isn’t reasonable.
At the same time, mutants are a little different. They carry the X-gene and will presumably replace humans. Kind of touches on xenophobia and the Great Replacement Theory. There aren’t enough cosmic storms or radioactive spiders to cause mutate numbers to rival the general population, but the X-gene is spreading like wildfire. That makes people nervous. |
Good episode, animation is crazy good, thirty minutes once a week is not enough.

Well, that isn't really a theory but becoming a reality. Fair enough. It still clashes to me when the Avengers are seen as heroes in the same universe when mutants are reviled but that is comic books for you. I suppose it was my same issue with Bewitched and Zootopia. Minority groups have seen themselves in the witches on Bewitched. But those witches had immense power and were terrifying, even if it was a silly comedy. It would make sense to fear them. I enjoyed Zootopia but the movie wanted the audience to think it was foolish bigotry and a phobia for the prey to fear feral predators. Even though, the prey had no defense against them. I am not advocating for blind fear but if a sizeable minority in a group is vicious then it becomes precaution. Like the M&M experiment says, would you slip your hand into a bowl of candy if 5% were poisonous? Maybe I overthink allegories. ROFL |
Was this thread we were debating ****, marry, kill between the big 3? Cause after seeing evil Jean I.. uh.. might want to change my answer.

There was precedent in the comics with Jane Foster becoming Mighty Thor, but this? This is just gender swapping for the sake of doing it. Surfer is one of Marvel's favorite cosmic characters, and here we go again with studio execs, far removed from what the fans love or want, pulling this shit for DEI/Alphabet People points, I guess? Why else would they do this? And I guess there just won't be a Norrin Radd in the MCU, or will he be Shalla-Bal's love interest (it'll be a chick, just watch) that she can never go back to see because she's the herald of Galactus? When did it become fashionable for movie studios to just set money on fire, anyway? ****ing hell, lol. And I LIKE Julia Garner, but not in a role that should never have been created in the first place. Christ on a stick. |
Let her play Frankie Raye - Nova. That'd be perfectly fine. That'd allow Surfer to actually roam free in the MCU universe and still give Galactus a herald.
I'm just screaming into the MCU void at this point, lol. |

Also the rumor is the Fantiastic Four movie takes place in its own universe, so there could still be a MCU Surfer out there. If the MCU functions like the comics, Galactus is a fundamental aspect of the universe and should exist in every reality. |
