From my POV, that bargaining chip is shrinking each year.

Guys are beginning to shorten their careers by choice. Taking a nice contract with guaranteed money after year three ensures a lifetime of wealth, something that used to take 10+ years, even for superstars.

Travis Kelce is set for for life after only three years in the NFL, one of which he missed entirely.

More guys will make that choice in the future.
