more than just two dudes. lot's of experience, speed and strength.

Did you say run stoppers? You know that's awesome for us if they play 20-30 snaps against Mahomes...

Dee Ford isn't a run stopper. He actually facilitates the opposing team's run game by running away from the RB. Or getting completely washed out, or just missing the tackle . . .

But losing 4-5 guys makes more sense. Your buddy said that it was two guys.

DJ Jones, Kwon and Tartt were the key losses. They are our Mighty Powerful run stoppers.

But you lost because Drew Brees torched your ass.

Are your reeruned?

Well, they aren't going to have much business in that area. Will they just sit on the bench then?

I'm reminded of that Rams defense we faced last year. It was dominant and did give us fits.

We lost but we put up 50 points.

So two guys don't suit up and your defense can't stop anybody. Interesting.

And even with all your pieces, Aaron Rodgers throws for over 320 and 2 TDs . . .

With just two weapons.

Curiouser and curiouser . . .

Rodgers had 43 yards passing in the 1st half. He lit it up in the 2nd when the pass rush wasn't getting home very often. Obviously that can't happen in Miami if we're going to have a legit chance.

Even in victory I can't remember the last time the 49ers slowed down Brees, even when we had Willis & Bowman and crew. He's always had our number, especially in the dome.

The 49ers vs. the Saints game is interesting. The Niners "elite" defense allowed the Saints to score TDs on their first four drives. All long, 50+ yard drives. The Saints just marched down the field on them. In the second half, NO got an INT off Garrapolo on SFs first drive, but only went 4 plays for 3 yards and kicked a FG.

Then the Saints fumbled their next possession, kicked a FG on their next possession, turned the ball over on downs, then TD, TD, both of those long 75-yard drives as well.

The Saints lit the 49ers defense up, both through the air and on the ground. If not for the Saints crapping themselves on that first possession in the second half, they would've won that game.

Just a reality check...in that game, Ford, Tartt and Alexander all did not play. That's 3 pro bowl quality players replaced by Marcel Harris, Sheldon Day/Valoaga, and Al-Shaair. You can dismiss it as an "excuse" or you can (more reasonably) conclude that perhaps the 49ers showing against NO is not the same defense KC will see in the SB.

I don't understand the dismissive attitude about Ford. Yeah, he's oft injured, but when he's not, he's an elite pass rusher -- who unfortunately for KC is prone to an occasional brain fart.

He will not get around Mitchell Schwartz.

Whoever lines up on that side will be a non factor.

If the 49ers defensive gameplan is to play a lot of zone.....then I’m going to assume that we’ll aim for a lot of lengthy drives where our players find the soft spot in the zone and sit down for Mahomes. Get the ball out of his hands quickly to negate their rush. Once they’re tired.....then you hit them with the deep kill shots.

I grant you the missing players hurting the efficiency of the DL.

But they went into the game knowing they had to have an answer, and gave up 4 TDs in a row in the first half.

Then in the second half it looks they finally made the right adjustments; NO fumbles away a possession, punts and kicks a FG. Seems like the Niners defense figured out how to stop NO. Then they allow two TDs in the 4th quarter. So apparently their fix was very temporary.

Regardless, if your defense plays anywhere near that level, or doesn't make adjustments that stick, they're going to have a tough day against Mahomes and co.

I liked the offense against Chicago. Controlled the clock, which helps the KC defense. They could have scored 40 in that game if they needed it, but it was a dominant performance against a good defense even with less than 30 points.
