Absolutely they should. He fills a huge power void, slots into the order nicely, and could represent the Royals in the HR Derby at the "K".

It's nice to discuss this but the Royals likely won't spend any money, we know how it goes.

Yep. Good with that.

Honestly, if we offered 3 for 60, I wouldn't freak.

spending money hasn't been a huge problem for a while now. Spending money stupidly has.

We may have to pay him $20 million a year to interest him. After hitting 2 HR's and carrying his team tonight he goes into the dugout and says "Wow, I'd LOVE to spend the next 3 years of my career with a team that makes Ryan Langerhans look like Barry Bonds."

Yea which means these moves we talk about won't happen, I fully expect the payroll to go down a bit next year, I doubt they sign anyone or any players combined that make what Guillen was making.

They'll pick up Dejesus option and probably sign a Jason Kendall esq scrub or 2.

CaliforniaChief 08-06-2010 09:56 PM

If they don't at least make a serious, Torii Hunter-esque run at one of the big guys, then I'm going to be convinced that GMDM doesn't get it. You have to supplement the upcoming prospects with proven stars. And as a small-economy team, you've got to seriously strike it while it's heating up.

Mecca 08-06-2010 09:58 PM

Not to mention the Royals have a severe lack of OF prospects...

ahh, gotcha. The royals aren't cheap, they are stupid.

Here's to hoping you are wrong the next couple years, but I don't exactly have a lot of evidence to refute you.

For the record I think they should pick up DeJesus option I'm not saying that's bad I just don't see them spending, they probably won't spend on the pen seeing as Coleman, Hardy and Collins should all be ready for the majors next year.

If anything Dunn and any kind of 2nd baseman or SS of any value would be good but it's hard for me to see them doing anything that intelligent.

ChiefsCountry 08-06-2010 10:03 PM

Still puzzles me why they didn't go after Jermaine Dye this past year. I bet they go after Jayson Werth this offseason.

tk13 08-06-2010 10:07 PM

Things like what's happened to Dye are weird... you know there's gotta be something out there keeping teams away. He's old but not ancient, and he put up decent numbers the last 3 years. Maybe he really does want a ton of money.

My guess is that if they spend money, it will be for an OF that's younger (and cheaper) than Dunn. The rationalization will be that they want someone young enough to be around and productive when the young guys project to be good.

Is Dye also represented by Jarrad Page's brother?
