We have top-notch SP prospects coming out our ass, we have a lot of room for failure. If there is a concern there, it might be that we have too many lefties. Aside from Greinke, who will be our second-best RHP? If our best 4 are Greinke and 3 stud lefties so be it, but you'd like to not be vulnerable to lineups with only right-handed batters.

Jesus. Do you know anything about Lamb, Dwyer and Duffy? They've been studs.

I do, but they have been playing in A ball all year. If they were doing it in AAA or AA all year I'd be much more confident. I guess I'm just being a negative Royals fan. After seeing Hochevar for the most part fail, I'm not holding my breath yet.

Our system is getting pretty loaded and we are loaded at pitching, be patient...as long as they stay healthy they are our future starters.

On the bats side of things, look out for Chelsor Chuthbert. He's likely to be very high-ranking prospect by this time next year. He's already getting attention.

All are at AA now and have continued to perform well. It is lambs third stop and the second for the others this year.

Probably will crack the top 100 and be named the top hitting prospect in his league.

2015. Here we come. /2010

Bad luck. Who could have anticipated that these guys would fail? Luckily, however, there is a really, really talented wave on the horizon. /2015

That's why the depth is what is important. When you have 8 top 100 prospects like the Royals do, odds are 2 will be stars, 2-3 will be solid, and 3 will be disappointing.

tk13 08-07-2010 01:58 PM

Yeah... we've been down this road before. Although this group does seem legitimately deeper than any group of prospects we've had in a while. Probably because of all the money we've spent. It would be quite a remarkable feat if they all flopped.

Pretty good breakdown. My only argument would be that it's more likely that only 1 will be a star.

I think the royals are playing right now or something, but who cares. Minor Leagues today, including Robinson since other people suddenly seem to think he's a prospect now:

AAA Omaha

Moustakas (3B) 1/4, 1K, 1 double

AA NWA

Danny Duffy (SP) 6IP 2R 1ER 1BB 8K
Robinson (CF) 4/6, 2 doubles, 1 triple, almost hit for the cycle (no home run)
Giavotella (2B) 3/4, 1BB, 1 double
Hosmer (1B) 2/3, 2BB

Advanced A Wilmington

Colon (SS) 0/4
Myers (C) 1/4, 1K

Encouraging start by Duffy. Giavotella's been on fire lately. What's wrong with Myers? Only 1 hit tonight? Just 1?

You'd like to think that if the Royals begin to have some success organically, sell more tickets, etc. that ownership would then be wiling to spend money on another star or two that leads to more winning and money. If they start to win games, free agents are more likely to be interested as well. Perhaps most importantly, young players can also be traded for more established productive players.

The other thing we overlook is that if you put better players in the lineup in Moose, Hosmer, etc., that makes Butler and DeJesus and Gordon and everyone else better. Greinke and Soria become recognized "stars" that we can appreciate because their efforts lead to wins.

CaliforniaChief 08-07-2010 10:07 PM

Meanwhile, Bruce Chen is pitching his ASS off tonight and getting the typical support from the Power Rangers of Getz, Aviles, Kendall, and crew.
