Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why the Cueto plus cash? Did the cash buy them Reed and save Glass some money in a season we're selling out games left and right? Just a bit strange that there was cash involved for a half season rental.

LOL Billy Butler batting .249, -0.6 oWAR, sub .700 OPS

Why not get a few hundred grand? Could add to the large pool it will take to sign Cuedo long term. If Ventura can get it together long term like he did today that could be one of the best 1-2 starting pitcher rotations in MLB for many years.

Still owed 3M for rest of year. This offsets the increase in payroll over budget somewhat.

After he was relieved and walking to the dugout pretty much this :

We aren't signing Cueto long term. Stop with this idea. He's gonna get paid big money and it won't be us, and rightfully so.

Royals rotation ranks, 15 AL teams:

Innings: 15
K/9: 13
ERA: 11

That last one is pretty telling given how our defense artificially dampens ERA. And they're still near the bottom.

KCCHIEFS27 07-26-2015 06:35 PM

Tim Kurkjian said that Reed could be a #3 starter and he's the one with the highest ceiling. Well, ok. At the moment, what a great deal. Again, as of now.

And yet we are still 21 games over .500.

So KC's defense and ballpark helps it's starting pitchers.

Meanwhile water is wet, grass is green and the sky is blue.

A lot of those numbers have to do w/ Duffy and Ventura pitching like shit the first half of the season. If those 2 have finally gotten their shit together, those rankings will be top 5 for 2nd half of the season.

I hope this team can do another 2nd half surge and really take command of this division, it's starting to look that way. DET is unlikely to come back and the Twins are coming back down to earth.

WilliamTheIrish 07-26-2015 06:42 PM

Take control? LMAO

This team has had a stranglehold on the division since sweeping the Twins in Minnesota.

Gosh darn it, we need to be 15 games up, not this pedestrian 7.5!

SPchief 07-26-2015 06:48 PM

Not to mention the fact that this team has had a 5 game losing streak all of once this year. IIRC they haven't even had a 4 game losing streak other than the included in the 5 game streak. It's very hard to not say we have a strangle hold on the division.

It's interesting how Heyman has a much more positive view of the Royals pieces to this trade than anyone here...
