Yeah comparing Bubba to Harper is silly. Harper is/was a much more polished baseball prospect than Bubba currently is. Not saying the upside won't be better with Bubba, but on draft day/signing day Harper is much closer to the big leagues than Bubba is. He was the Strasburg of last years draft..........meaning #1 overall pick without question. Bubba is not that.

The Cards got Wong signed almost immediately and he's been pretty much terrorizing low A since he got there; it'll be great for him next season, IMO.

It's huge to get those first couple of months as a professional ballplayer out of the way. They learn how to treat the game as their job and it gives them a major boost going into the following season.

It would've been awfully nice for the Royals to have gotten that under Starling's belt going into 2012. He could've been ready for High A or even a September bump to AA by as early as next season if he'd have performed well at low A this year.

I'm curious as to why these signings come, literally, at the last minute. Are they really negotiating right up to midnight or is it just some kind of weird tradition?
