I agree, those were good teams, I just don't remember any of them winning a national championship.

How were/are they better?

A national championship is just a trophy. A very impressive coveted trophy, but just a 6-game contest all the same. It is not the indisputable proof that you are the best team in the country.

If you played NBA style seven game series the last 20 years KU would have about 3-4 championships. You need luck, the right draw, and good play to win the national title. It's amazing how many people refuse to accept that there is alot of luck in sports. some days you have it, some days you don't. it's not because you weren't playing hard. some times the shots fall. there is no divine destiny of who should win the championship. i think ur watching too much angels in the outfield

Nice, I thought maybe that was the case. I see you have been around long enough to know some things about this place. ;)

Yup, in baseball, NBA, and hockey its really damned hard to argue that the team standing at the end is not the best team. You dont luck your way through 2 or 3 series.

You do have to be a GOOD team to win 6 straight, but the best team can easily have an off night and be out.

We can agree to disagree, regular season is nice (see Chiefs records during late 80's/early 90's) but championships define a team.

88 was better - I think the 2008 team can be the next one.

Therfore, in my opinion, the 08 team is better than the ones you stated.

No one outside the conference remebers the conference champion.

Ya know what is funny? Except for Roy's first year when we were on probation. The most losses KU has ever had is when we last won the national championship in '88. So the key to Kansas success is losing in the regular season. I guess that means we are screwed this year haha ;)

Ted Owens had some shitty teams. I doubt '88 had the most losses ever. But I'm too lazy to go look.

Yep, people say Kansas should have won in '97 because they were the best team in the country. Well, they weren't the best team in the country in '88, but I don't see Danny Manning shipping his ring to Paul Pierce any time soon.

In 70 years of basketball, FIVE schools have more than 2 championships.

I think he was referring to KU teams that actually had a shot at the championship.
