To be fair to Newton, he has yet to be linked to accepting gifts. That's his father. I'm gonna guess when a team picks Cam that his father isn't going to be up there holding the jersey with him.

Cam has already stated that he and his father have grown even closer this past year.

Newton is unquestionably going to be drafted in the first. You think teams are going to reach for Kaepernick in the first? If not, then your whole theory of Kaepernick being drafted before Newton is reeruned.

Curious...what makes Kaepernick "half the QB" that Newton is?

Kaepernick is more RB than he is QB. His speed with a strong arm. Too bad that strong arm comes with a pitchers wind up, because get this... he was a pitcher in baseball. All of his mechanics are pretty bad when it comes to what you want out of a QB.

His production as a runner nearly matches his production as a passer. I don't know about you, but not many teams run a spread option in the pros, so I'll pass on Kaepernick as a pro QB.

I know you have a hard on for Kaepernick so its going to be hard for you to look at him as a QB. But then again, you saw Asamoah as a LT so you just might be able to see him as a QB.

Other then the throwing motion which isn't nearly as bad as former 1st round pick Byron Leftwich that sounds a lot like Newton minus the character issues.

Except the fact that Newton doubled his production as a passer.

Kaepernick: Passing - 7 yards avg/21 TD; Running - 7 yards avg/20 TD

Newton: Passing - 10 yards avg/30 TD; Running - 5 yards avg/20 TD

You're 1/2's and double's need some work :)

I just think character is everything in the NFL, but like MM mentioned depends a lot on the CBA and salaries for the rooks as well.. Newton just doesn't seem like a guy you feel good about giving big bucks to long term.

10 isn't 5x2? Who taught you math?

And it's your, not you're.

Get crackin on that English, too.

I think he has the mental makeup that all great QBs have, that indefinable "it".

But I wouldn't take him at 21.

If he's there in the 2nd, he'd be the guy.

you're a big fan and you think he has "it"...

and we haven't had a franchise QB since Len Dawson

why not at #21???

if Pioli thinks this guy is the next Brady...or the next great QB...he'd be nuts not to "reach" and snag him at 21...don't you think?

DaneMcCloud 03-01-2011 12:01 PM

Cam Newton is going in the second round?

ROFL

Genious.

The reason I don't take him at 21 is durability issues, especially concerns about his arm injuries.

If I'm sitting in Pioli's chair and interviewing him, and I have my impression of his leadership and character reinforced, that might sway me to take a chance at 21.

if Newton aces his pro day I can't see him not going #1 or #3

Carolina has to take Newton or Gabbert...no reason not to

There is a reason not to. His name is Luck. I don't see them improving much in 1 draft and, correct me if I'm wrong, they have the toughest 2011 schedule.
