Yeah, no. Pre-employment background checks typically cost at least a hundred bucks each. Much more than that if they're anything more in depth than "what's on the person's criminal record."

I have to supply a background check to be an official for USA Swimming- $29.00

Dixie Youth, where I coach t-ball, runs a background check on us coaches. No cost. I can't imagine they check much. We have to be certified as well which costs like $20.00 or something.

IMHO, anyone working with kids should be thoroughly vetted. That said, it wouldn't catch all of them.


I hated to read the outcome of this abduction. Prayers to MTG and to the family. As the father of two young boys (8 and 6) this breaks my heart.

Well I suppose that's true. But one has to wonder if he ever did anything to a kid while there. Even if not I'm sure it is scary for the parents at the school to now realize that there was a monster working at the kids' school. And many parents may now be concerned that if this kind of person can get in then are there others.

I would think a school district would get a pretty fair discount through the county sheriffs department in which the school resides. Like free.
