I have no idea, luv. Sans all the economic turmoil, I would say crude should be around $60 to $70.

So theoretically, when crude was $130+, gas was above $4. That means IF crude drops to $60, gas should be $2?

kstater 10-10-2008 06:01 PM

And gas is still $3.39 here.

Gasoline was $4.11 when crude reached its peak ($147) this year in July. The last time crude was $60, gasoline was ~$2.50/gallon.

If it's been discussed already today then I apologize. Why does OPEC want to decrease production now Donger? Any clue?

To attempt to push the price back up.

Sam Hall 10-10-2008 09:17 PM

I could live with $2 gas, but I want something lower.

Notice a 13 cent price decrease in one day, at the same 2 stations.

No shit?

It JUST dropped under 3.00 here in STL today, and we're normally cheaper than KC - though they've been under 3.00 for over a week, IIRC.

T-Town has lots of government, obviously. That may have something to do with it.

Spott 10-10-2008 09:34 PM

It's still 3.50 here. It just now got back down from the gouging that the stations did back when Ike went through and gas went up over .50 in a few hours.

Are there still lines at the pump, or was that elsewhere in the south?

Donger 10-13-2008 08:33 AM

National retail average is now $3.18/gallon. That's a $0.63 drop in one month. Crude's up today, however.

Saulbadguy 10-13-2008 08:36 AM

Lowest price in Topeka is $2.39

Frazod 10-13-2008 09:13 AM

Still $3.23 by me. :grr:

Hopefully we'll be back under $3.00 soon.

I don't believe it will, no. I would guess in between $70 and $80 for a while.

$2.00 gasoline is ~$50.00/barrel.

Buck 10-13-2008 05:44 PM

Neat. I almost wish I had a trip coming up or something so that I could actually get something out of it. As it is, I rarely fill up more than once a month.

BigCatDaddy 10-16-2008 10:06 AM

Under $70 a barrell. Obviously there is more going on then a supply and demand issue as that's over 50% drop in about 3 months.

Don't worry they're going to stop producing gas real soon, and the price will go back up.

Hard to say. Demand is very weak in the US: 8.9% down compared to last year. Combined with a probable recession, I don't see why prices wouldn't continue to decrease.

The fundamentals didn't support $147 (or $100 for that matter).

Donger 10-16-2008 10:46 AM

Forecast national retail average: $2.50/gallon @ $60.00/barrel crude. If that happens, some places around the country, namely the Midwest, will see sub-$2.00 gasoline.

chasedude 10-16-2008 11:33 AM

This price drop in Oil lately is nice. Since the cost of delivering goods has gone up with the oil prices is it safe to assume these goods will then start falling in price? I hope so. In this economy we need all the extra cash we need to survive.

Donger 10-16-2008 12:29 PM

Damn. Crude stockpile grew 5.6 million barrels last week, double what was expected. Gasoline stocks grew 7 million barrels, more than double what was expected.

Demand for gasoline alone was down 5.2% over last year at this time.

Keep demand low, folks. It's the best thing you can do to combat prices.

While I believe reducing demand has helped lower the price. The large increase in price over the summer appears to be driven mostly be speculators now. I would think OPEC would love to hang those guys by their testicles. While they had the nice spike for a short time, they have appeared to have triggered a global decrease in demand over the long haul, including mandates on fuel efficient cars and a more urgent development of alternative fuel sources.

The value of the dollar is really moving up lately. A dollar in Euro's is .74 today. This could be another reason why the price is dropping, our money is worth more now.

2.39 in the Queen City.

Frazod 10-16-2008 03:26 PM

The thing is, I think people now realize that even though gas is (relatively) cheap now, all it takes is one disaster, one bombing, or just a new round of unchecked greed and BOOM it'll be $5.00 a gallon. Perhaps, hopefully, the alternative fuel/conservation thing has dug in and will move forward now. I wonder if fear of that happening is one of the driving factors in this massive price drop. Have these vile ****s finally pushed us too far? God, I hope so.

While my Impala isn't exactly a bastion of fuel efficiency, if I drive sane it's not all that bad. I have an extended warranty and will have it paid off in a couple of years. Hopefully by the time it's time to put it out to pasture I can replace it with a truly functional electric car.

5.2% is a massive drop in demand IMO. As long as we keep lowering demand things will be OK.
