I'm getting the Texas/Stanford game here. It is at Reliant Stadium in Houston. They are blowing the car horn at this one. Not sure what the heck that's all about.

You're right. I was getting the venues mixed up. Still don't know why it sounds weird though.

I ****ing hate the way Ford Field and Reliant Stadium are set up.

On the bright side, though, it does keep the Texas fans like 9,000 feet away from the court.

I hate it, too. I don't like the way the court/stage is elevated 4 feet in the air.

alnorth 03-28-2008 06:55 PM

If Davidson holds on and KU wins out this weekend, would that be a record for the easiest final four run in history? We'd get there by defeating a 16, 8, 12, and 10 seed.

eazyb81 03-28-2008 06:55 PM

Kansas is going to have the easiest road to the Final Four in history.

16 seed Portland State, 8 seed UNLV, 12 seed Villanova, 10 seed Davidson.

Unreal.

Wow, nobody wants to face the top seeds? I want to be able to say we beat the top rated teams. Irregardless of how good Davidson has played, if KU wins tonight and beats Davidson on Sunday, the media will pull the "they had it easy" crap.

Bearcat 03-28-2008 07:16 PM

The only thing I got right in my bracket this year was the implosion of the bottom half of Kansas' region. I knew Wisconsin and Georgetown wouldn't make it to the EE, I just didn't know who would make it.

Quote:

This place is so predictable. If Kansas wins tonight and Sunday the true anti-Jayhawks will go from "scoreboard, bitch!" to "Kansas had it easy not having to play the teams that lost early in the tournament".

Some people thought Georgetown was the strongest team in the region, and Wisconsin was playing very well before today and could have been a #2 seed (come on, Duke?).

You can have a bad shooting night or be a step slow against a Big 11 or Big Least team, because they are a bad shooting night and a step slow. I'm not saying Davidson has the best players in the nation, but you better show up on both sides of the ball because they'll out-hustle you all night.

Who gives a crap what others say, because in the end Kansas will get to prove what kind of team they really are... If they get out of the region I'd be very surprised if UNC isn't waiting; and after that another 1 or 2 seed.

Eh... it's just like football season. If you want everyone to StFU, win your last game.

Why would they get laughed at?

Oh wait, because Lew Perkins sucked off the entire Georgetown and Wisconsin teams at halftime of each Davidson game.

That guy really wants to win.

I said in the beginning that the Midwest could be the toughest region. with all these upsets, I would say I was accurate. The media calling it easy is just the easy way for them to explain it away rather than giving these teams the credit the obviously deserve.

eazyb81 03-28-2008 07:25 PM

How in the hell is Davidson a D1 team? They have 1500 students.

tk13 03-28-2008 07:25 PM

Well, I'd pick KU over Davidson. But at this point, Davidson has proved it can play right with UNC, Duke, and UCLA, and have played out of their minds in the tournament. It could be a blowout, but so could any other game.... there's really no reason to think they can't hang with anybody that's left.

alnorth 03-28-2008 07:30 PM

Well, I looked it up, and Kansas will not break the all-time record for easiest (on paper) path to the final four. The best they could hope for would be the 3rd-easiest path of all time, and the easiest in 7 years.

Michigan State holds the record for easiest path to the final four, set back in 2001. Before falling to Arizona in the final four, they defeated a 16 (Alabama State), 9 (Fresno State), 12 (Gonzaga), and 11 seed (Temple)

We have 2 teams tied for 2nd-easiest path:

The 1990 NCAA champion UNLV Running Rebels made it to the final four before winning it all by defeating a 16 (Ark. Little Rock), 8 (Ohio State), 12 (Ball State), and 11 seed (Loyola Marymount).

North Carolina also had an easier time in 1991 before losing to Kansas in the final four by defeating a 16 (Northeastern), 9 (Villanova), 12 (Eastern Michigan), and 10 seed (Temple).

I didn't say anything about not wanting to play the top seeds. I am just glad that Wisconsin's ugly style is gone. UCLA's thugball should be next. Hell, they should have gone out in the 2nd round if it weren't for some help by the refs. Some would say that they didn't even deserve a #1 seed. Sure looks like they had some help getting where they are.

Lzen 03-28-2008 07:37 PM

Nobody really cares how you got there. If you get to the Final Four, you are a good team, period. Nobody remembers what number of the seeds you defeated.

After last year, I never want to run into that crap in the tournament again.

I want Kansas vs. UNC, and they're much better than Georgetown or Wisconsin. It would be a great game, which could only be better if Jeff Graves came back and broke Tyler Hansbrough's face. :)

I'm not worried at all. KU should walk into the final four. We'll contain Curry, we are awesome at stopping guards because of our size and speed combination. We're fine.

First halves...

Memphis: 62% offense, 39% defense
Kansas: 59% offense, 27% defense

Memphis: 4/10 3s

You're playing the #51 team in the RPI. We're playing the #15 team in the RPI.

What I love about this (and this isn't directed at you) is that some people are STILL saying, as we lead the RPI's 15th-best team in the country by 32, that it's just Michigan State playing bad basketball. We had nothing to do with Neitzel being unable to sneeze without one of our players shoving a hankie in his face, no way no how.

Yeah, I know... Villanova was the last team in, and they're still overrated.

Yep, those on the outside always seem to have higher expectations than the actual fans. FFs and EEs don't matter to the anti-Jayhawk fans because if they don't win a NC every couple of years or get upset a couple of times they are full-time chokers. And as long as Memphis doesn't consistently make it to the FF or win a couple of NCs, the big conference traditionalists, haters, and idiots will always think of Memphis at best along the lines of a Gonzaga or Butler.
