Has anyone had any experience with Artillery Fungus attacking your car?

It's a thing.

Anyone find anything that works to remove the spots?

Is it paint or windshield? EDIT: those are paint.

Elbow grease is the only thing I know of.

yeah the 2nd picture definitely isn't water spots. I guess they're all of that mold.

Things you read about leather seats in new cars is that it hasn't been actual leather for quite some time, correct? Its a composite type leather or something?

So, does conditioning it with a leather conditioner actually do anything? Everyone still seems to recommend conditioning these "leather" seats.

Yes you still need to condition it.

I switched to Mothers products and love them.

Get the Leather wash, then the leather cream and it will be like new as long as your kids car seats didn't trash it in the back. I might have the back restained but after using the wash and cream even the back feels supple and like new.

Good info thanks.

Was looking at my son’s car seat back there and thinking it’s probably destroying the seat. Probably can’t do much to avoid that.

Looking for suggestions on a way to clean automated car wash residue off of a windshield. Product recommendations or old school tricks. Disclaimer for the don't wash it in the auto car wash crowd. 09 F-150 that doesn't fit in the garage so I am beyond keeping it pristine. I do however am getting annoyed with this crap on my windshield. I did try some regular glass cleaner but that did not faze it.

Sure - Buy a clay bar for automobiles off of amazon - NOT a kit - use glass cleaner as the lube - do about two passes in total - clean with microfiber towel and glass cleaner - then go fap at the results.

Trebb if it's too crazy - go buy super clean degreaser at walmart in the auto product dept - it's in a purple spray bottle - about 3.99 or something. that'll certainly do it. I'd do the first method I'd mentioned above, first though.

TrebMaxx 08-27-2018 08:27 PM

Thanks SR. I will look into your suggestions. Will using a clay bar with window cleaner harm it for use on paint? Not that it matters that much but I thought maybe keep one for paint and one for glass.

I wouldn't recommend it - I thought you just meant glass - so here - do this - go to walmart and buy the Mothers Clay kit for 14.99 or so - use the instant detailer for the lube (this comes in the kit) - this will work on paint and glass - i was just trying to save you money since most households have glass cleaner - just finish with glass cleaner and microfiber. if you do end up claying w/ the super clean - which is fine for glass - protect your hands - it's pretty agressive.

Indian Chief 08-27-2018 10:09 PM

SR has some good suggestions. The follow is for the GLASS ONLY. If you want to try something that you might already have around the house, mix up some Dawn with warm water and use 0000 steel wool. Float it lightly over an inconspicuous spot. I've gotten some odd residues off my windshield that way.

Shine was good. Just right.

I have a new car (2 months old that has never seen rain since new) that I am prepping to paint correct.

I have been doing research on Nano-coatings (ceramic) for the paint, wheels and calipers.

Anyone have experience with this? I have learned that proper touch up of paint and coating is required for some warranties. Others tell me that the warranty is worthless but the manufacturer offers it so hey sell it

Anyone done this to their babies or better yet done it yourself?

I have one company that wants me to become a dealer and will offer me a 48 hour (with formal dinners on them) training class. I know they want to sell me a pro dealer license and refunding my expenses might make me fold. I have a new tenant who does detailing so being a dealer myself and letting him do the work, maybe a good thing.

Before making the trip paying for 5-6 nights hotel and a car I want to know if someone with my experience can do this using pro materials as a DYI without training

I owned a touch up paint business for several years air brushing paint into chips, scratches, and painting window trim, mirrors and eventually glazing noses and blending hoods, dually fenders, and fogging/ painting truck beds.

https://i.postimg.cc/XY3hQtWZ/redz-rrear.png

I have painted several cars including this Z which was painted right where it sits. I layed down 6 coats PPG w/ 2 part Urethane hardener from Dupont, wet sanded to 2000 and them polished. I have not done any paint polish work for 10 years

I no longer have body or detail gear but do have access to some though my tenant.

Anyone had this done, DIYed it? Can you give me some input

Including paint correction they want $2700 to 3K and one shop declined the job if I did the correction. Another said to do the correction and they would quote it then.

hometeam 03-30-2019 11:41 PM

I used cquartz on both of my Focus STs that we have for dailies, and my truck. Easy peasy. Any yahoo could do it in there garage, though, whatever company may have some specific process to be followed to be under warranty, but if you can wax a car, you can coat it.

cooper barrett 03-31-2019 12:34 AM

Which one? How many coats?

The certified coating require infra-red curing.

The pro version suggests using it.

Tell me you know a guy who knows a guy:D:D:D:D

Looks great! I have some Chemical Guys VRP on the way for the tires - really excited to try it out after watching a ton of reviews on YT.

I've been stocking up on detailing products (for the first time) to start taking real good care of my new car. Waiting on a few final products (foam cannon, vacuum, CG Honeydew Snowfoam and VRP) to get going. Super stoked about it all.

The latest thing is to put the word "ceramic" in everything, like "ceramic" detailer. I have a feeling it's just gimmicky and does nothing more than a normal detail spray would do.

Yes and no. Basically it’s like a wax but easier to apply. Maybe slightly more hydrophobic but lasts about as long as traditional waxes and shouldn’t be confused with a true ceramic coating.

I'm sure some questions will come up, so thanks in advance. The car is a black 2019 Dodge Charger - yes, the dreaded black. I'm not crazy OCD if it's not sparkly every second of the day, so I'll survive the black paint. I'm starting with a few Angelwax products for protection, namely Ti-22 as a sealant and their Dark Chocolate wax on top of that. I have both Griot's Best in Show quick detailer and P&S Beadmaker for touchups. Excited to try the Beadmaker, as that's a new one for me.

Having a professional ceramic coat it soon. There goes $800. I’ll just basic wash it after that. I’m not much of a pro at washing cars. Looking at buying that ammo brand stuff.

cooper barrett 05-11-2020 11:58 AM

Most of the $800 should be in the prep work (wet sanding and polishing) and the outragous mark up of the product. Did you furnish a name brand product or just trust the detailer used the "name brand stuff"?

Does the ceramic coat help w/ black cars often looking dirty, or nah? I'm thinking about picking up a new ride in all black, but if I constantly have to wash it, even with ceramic coat, I'll skip that color and go with lower maintenance.

Reason I ask about ceramic coat is I got it applied to my green-painted vehicle and man, does it make it look amazing! No buff marks, super shiny, and looks clean all of the time. Black ain't green ;)

Just my experience but flat black paint just shows EVERYTHING, even the dust. If it's got some metallic properties it's not as noticeable and the ceramic coating makes things less prone to stick to the paint, unlike a true wax which actually attracts things like dust to stick to it.

In Phoenix is just always dusty between pollen and actual dust, so if my car sits at work for a few days it's noticeably dusty up close. But with the ceramic coating it does appear very shiny and cleaner unless you are right next to the car to see the layer of dust.

Also, this is my favorite interior detailing cleaner/protectant (And I've tried a lot!).

Goes on easy and even if you're heavy handed with it, it dries to a nice satin finish no matter what. It can be applied to all interior surfaces, outside of leather car seats, even your infotainment screen and it dries perfectly without having to buff anything off.

Doesn't streak on shiny stuff eh? I may have to try this. I've always been a Lexol guy, but I'm willing to try something else because I DO have to buff the Lexol from shiny things. It's especially frustrating in my wife's car because it has a big screen and piano black everywhere.

Both our cars now have the big screens and piano black interior throughout. This stuff is awesome. Give it a shot, I think you'll be impressed. I ALWAYS had to buff to get streaks off with literally dozens of other products.

I alternate between Adams Mega Foam or Gtechniq W4 citrus foam. It seems to me that the G4 perhaps cleans a bit better but the Adams is more stable and easier to rinse. I’ve also used Chemical Guys Honeydew Snow Foam and it’s not bad either. It may the most economical choice along with Meguiars Gold Class.

I love this machine grey metallic so much. Took my months to find it in the trim package I wanted. So far seems to really shine, even when it's dusty, which is the biggest complaint for car owners in Phoenix. Seems like scratches also don't show up on paint as much if there's a metallic component to them.

What about chemical guys pink soap? I seem some good reviews on that.

With the foam gun are you still using a wash mitt, or can you get most off with a full soap and hard rinse?

I love the interior of this car too but the piano black trim by the center console and window controls scratches so easy. I also use a really thick window visor for this car as the all black interior can get hot and I've yet to have this through a full Phoenix summer yet. I need to find some covered parking I think as my work doesn't have any!

I have not tried the CG pink soap. Most of the CG products work pretty well so I would suspect that to at least be suitable for purpose.

As for my process, I do a full pre-soak and let dwell for 5 minutes. If truly filthy, I then rinse with my pressure washer and do a full second wash with Carpro Reset and a microfiber mitt along with a boar's head brush (Montana round boars head brush). If somewhat clean, I will still use the brush/mitt combo along with reset but I will do it on top of the already foamed car.

This may seem like overkill, but it truly removes all road grime and gets my black SUV looking factory new/clean each time. I also have white, red, and green vehicles and this works for them too. However, they are not as hard to keep looking good. All are coated with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light and I use (liberally) the C2V3 as a drying aide each time.

I second this. I have a red RR Evoque that has A LOT of piano black exterior trim and no matter what I did, I could not keep it looking good until I had it corrected and wrapped (Suntek Ultra PPF).

I bought a TrailBlazer earlier this year and the wheels looked like shit, so one of the first things I did was strip off the clearcoat, then polished the hell out of them, and then painstakingly taped off the polished areas and painted the inset areas black. Any of you have a suggestion on a good clearcoat to keep them looking good?

Any of you have a suggestion on a good clearcoat to keep them looking good?

You're going to wants to use a real, 2 part automotive clearcoat. Normal rattle can stuff ends up too soft for use on wheels

Have the piano trim corrected then wrapped in PPF. Worth it IMO.

The inside trim in PPF?

I bought a sports car as my second car about 2 years back and it came with the front end wrapped in xpel ppf and that stuff has been great. Other than cutting out the damage from rock chips it really helps with general upkeep ease. I underestimated its value when it bought the car but a believer now.

My car has hit 5 years old and the ppf is peeling on a lot of edges. I removed the ppf from the side skirts last weekend. What a bitch! It leaves a very difficult adhesive residue behind. The only reliable way I found was doing some detailed work with the pressure washer.

Just a warning because it's a BITCH to get off

Not sure if you had the PPF installed or someone else, but most new PPF installations come with a full 10 year warranty for both parts (film) and labor. If it starts to peel up, you should be able to get it replaced for free. Same is true for discoloration or other issues.

I bought the car after it had been used for 6 months. The previous owner had it installed, but there was no certificate or info regarding the ppf install. It wasn't done through the dealer and it wasn't part of the CPO warranty.

A steamer will do wonders getting old ppf off. 5 years is way too early to be dealing with issues like that, guessing either a poor install or shitty film. I have two cars that are going on 12+ years with old tech film and look great.

Yes sir, do it and forget cringing each time your keys or phone slides across the trim. Hell I have just about every stainless appliance covered in PPF in the house, zero scratch’s or fingerprints. I should own stock in 3M.

It is worth every penny. Protects the paint (and glass) from all kinds of nonsense including bugs, bird droppings, and even rocks (small ones, obviously). I got 5 coats of it on my ride ;)

Need to brag and highlight a Detailer

Finally got the new ride and had it Ceramic Coated. Place in Raymore Missouri called Aristocrat Detailing did the work. Super young guy, attention to the last detail (no pun intended) and very professional. https://aristocratdetailing.com

Good people doing great work and doing that self employed thing needs recognition. https://i.ibb.co/M74r9Fj/2-D79-BDDC-...A22454-AAD.jpg
