Even then it likely won’t matter. This team isn’t built to do much damage in 2019. They’d be a pretty damn good mid-2000’s team though. If you can’t shoot and play through bigs you’re not doing squat in today’s game. High/low needs to go bye-bye, recruit to the 4-1 lineup.

FYI, Dotson is having a great year for a freshman guard and Dedric Lawson is one of the better bigs offensively in the country (not sure why he didn't get the ball more down the stretch of this one and Garrett/Vick were taking shots).

I'd have to agree that Self should take a fair share of blame for this one...especially when you know you have a senior guard who likes to dribble around and take awful contested shots with no conscience. Self should have ensured that wouldn't happen.

As frustrating as Vick is, it’s not surprising at all that he handled that final possession so poorly. Complaining about him is like the frog complaining about the scorpion stinging him. Self can’t let Vick run the offense with the game on the line.

Of the new players, only Dedric and Ochai are better than expected. Dotson is decent, but that’s probably about what we expected.

Of the returning players, only Garret is clearly better than last year.

Ogbaji should probably be the starter at this point. Outplays Grimes by a pretty large margin every night.

This. ‪Even if Dok hadn’t gotten hurt, I doubt the team goes very far. You’re not winning a title let alone making a Final Four playing through a big like Dok. This is 2019. The trouble is this team is built like a mid-2000’s team.

Maybe some other fans can correct me but I guess I don’t see what De Sousa does for this team. He isn’t a shooter. He can make some hustle plays and some layups and some decent defense. How is he anything different than say Lightfoot? I just don’t see how he solves any major deficiencies on this team.

He is a materially better athlete.

We get it. Vick is a mental midget, but he makes this team better and they NEED him. I can't even imagine how much worse we would be without him. We would have NO three point shooting.

We ran plays to get Svi and Devonte shots. We never runs plays to get Vick an open look. He improvises too much, to a fault. But Devonte took some bad shots too. Lets get Vick some open looks. He's a good offensive shooter, even if that is all he can do. He's like a college version of Jamal Crawford.

If they don't run plays to get him open spot shots (and they don't), he really doesn't. He can't dribble, pass, or defend and he makes a bonehead play about every minute he's on the floor.

Mahomes has killed my enthusiasm for Jayhawks basketball. This team is just boring and not very good.

Its definitely a down year. I expect a first weekend exit which in a way is kind of liberating. I doubt I'll be as worked up for March like I usually am.

To put it in perspective though, we're basically an average Big XII team now. Our "terrible" is simply average. We've been spoiled.

People seem to say that just about every year in thread (the Big 12 streak was supposed to be snapped every year for the past decade), but it's actually true this time.... the common theme of losing the big man for the season, but without the outside shooting or even great defense or any killer instinct. Yikes.

@ISU was pretty much my breaking point... annoying to watch, and as opposed to the past where you never wanted to give up on them, because they could pull just about any game out of their ass at any time... other teams are now doing that. Didn't care to record the two games last weekend when I was in KC, forgot about tonight's game... sadly, they just aren't a priority. :shrug:

The saddest part though is they're still in the mix for the Big 12 at the moment.

Iowa State is favored in all remaining games according to KenPom, if that makes you feel better. Des Moines, KC, and Minneapolis should be a nice little path to the Championship for us.

No, not yet. Looks like it's taken it's toll on next years recruiting class though. The fact that Grimes looks like a Top 150 recruit instead of a Top 7 recruit is having alot to do with it.

I've been wondering the same thing. And when the hammer falls this offseason...what kind of shape will the program be in?

Rivals has us so far as the #48 ranked recruiting class with 2 4 stars. No one wants to touch us till they see what's going to happen from the fallout. I'm not a "sky is falling" fan, but this feels like Camelot starting to crumble. :(
