Am i supposed to believe that Caleb can run a more complicated, diverse scheme? Why?

I'd buy into that more if the exact same issues weren't being had in Seattle last year where that OC was.

It's all that + I'm just not sure he's done the work. More than a few occasions now he's made an arrogant ass out of himself - whether it was on hard knocks, the interaction with Stroud Sunday, pre-draft - he has shown his stripes multiple times and ironically he may have needed this humbling start to his career more than any amount of success.

Yeah i said pretty much the same thing after watching him week 1.

Stop making excuses. Saw the dude flat miss a WIDE OPEN TD to Keenan week 1 who had ROASTED Sneed. That's on the OC?

Pasta Little Brioni 09-22-2024 01:16 PM

A complete disaster today in Indy! I agree with Tox. He looks as bad as Bryce Young out there.

Caleb is a generational… bust.

And the Pro-Caleb poster here who predicted that Caleb would make multiple Pro Bowls… only as the 10th replacement maybe.

Pablo 09-22-2024 01:32 PM

I bet when Caleb won games in middle and high school he'd go get a manicure as a little treat

Them nails are gonna look bad this year

This can't be! I was assured that he can do everything that Patrick Mahomes can do!

He threw a TD

He figured out you want to get the ball to your guy in the redzone not the other guy

Possibly a turning point??

Some really talented college QBs make it to the NFL and then we all find out that the NFL game is too fast and too complicated for them.

I got a long way to go before I say Caleb may not make it but he looks horrible. Lost, stupid, bad decisions.

Chicago may destroy all his confidence.

I am also curious about how much a situation matters. Look at Darnold. Granted it’s still early, but he’s been looking pretty solid.

Situation matters a lot.

Bryce Young has been destroyed. He may only be a backup but right now he can't even make waterboy.

I think the game will slow down for him. But it’s fun to watch him struggle. He has always been very arrogant. He’s eating humble pie right now.

Yup. That's why I don't care for him. But yeah, some QBs struggle early and then turn out okay. Look at Jordan Love. He was terrible his first year. Now he's doing ok.

Mecca 09-23-2024 10:37 AM

He looks like a rookie QB, if I wanna be real honest, Anthony Richardson looks worse.

He was hyped as being “generational”… in the Mahomes category.

Having a Derek Carr-type career = bust, relative to the hype.

Same thing with Andrew Luck and Trevor Lawrence. Caleb has all the physical tools, but so did those 2 guys. We'll see how it goes over time. In the short term, I am enjoying Caleb's struggles. The kid needs some humble pie. Hopefully he embraces the situation with a better attitude than he has shown in the past. He has potential to become a better person, a better team leader, and a better player in the long run with a proper attitude adjustment.

neech 09-23-2024 12:33 PM

He was thrown in the deep end of the pool and not coming up to the surface.

I'm telling you these new QB's need some time to soak in the speed and complexity of the NFL before they take the field.

Exactly! Which is why Mahomes sitting a year behind Smith was by far the best thing that could’ve happened to Mahomes

The Bears loaded up their offense with good WR’s, Swift at RB, etc.

He’s not walking into a dumpster fire situation.

Lincoln Riley does a piss poor job of preparing his QBs for the mental side of the game.

It's not a coincidence that Caleb Williams, Kyler Murray, and Spencer Rattler all entered the league with their biggest question marks being their mentals.

At least they got rid of that terrible OC, this is just a wasted year though no idea why they kept Eberflus dumb ass.

Wisconsin_Chief 11-12-2024 12:24 PM

As much as I detest this arrogant little runt, we all know how important coaching is to a young QB, and he's got probably the worst offensive staff in football behind him. They will fill the staff with top flight offensive minds next year, and I'm guessing we'll see better results.

chiefzilla1501 11-12-2024 12:26 PM

I mean look... It sounds like the team as a whole hates Waldron. I'm guessing he's not a bad guy but is just way out of his skis.

But man... The body language of the WRs to Caleb looks so bad it can't entirely be about Waldron. I think they hate the guy and it's not because he sucks right now. So did Bryce young. This looks like they just can't stand the guy. Maybe that's just dj Moore being a diva, but it just looks that way

DJ Moore has put up with a lot of shit in his career.

If he hates you, its about more than bad football.

If only anyone thought Williams' personality might be an issue for him...

mr. tegu 11-12-2024 12:36 PM

Nick Wright just made a good point. Said that in the last three games he has no INTs, no turnover grades worthy plays, and only one explosive play. Basically sounds like he isn’t even playing QB right now and is just completely neutered and being coached to let the defense win the game. No aggressiveness at all. Probably very little fire or grit either when playing so timid. I could definitely see why players might want the backup when they see the QB playing so scared.

Of course Williams has been plenty bad in his own right independent of probable bad coaching. He is taking terrible sacks and missing easy throws.

Like I said - the best example of this was always Russell Wilson.

You can be weird and self-absorbed when you're really damn good. When you're not and you need your teammates to pull on the same side of the rope as you, they'd better like you.

And they aren't gonna like weird and self absorbed.

It isn't that you CAN'T succeed being an AI Generated quarterback like Russell Wilson. It's that your margin for error is about zero.

Because these are grown ass men, almost all millionaires, that aren't gonna be real interested in going to war for you when all you care about is...you.

Because he doesn't know what 'putting in the work' actually is.

He thinks he does.

He's wrong.

Again, being Patrick Mahomes isn't about playing like your ass is on fire. It's about being prepared for every possible eventuality and being able to execute in the most dire of situations when that eventuality occurs.

This guy convinced himself he could be Mahomes without that level of commitment.

They could’ve traded back one spot with the Commies, probably picked up at least Washington’s 1st round pick next year, and still drafted Jayden Daniels, who I was on record saying was the best QB in the ‘24 draft.

He's probably improved a tick.

But the guy we saw out there in the first 3 weeks of the season was playing backward football. He wasn't reading defenses or trying to run an offense. He was trying to make all those sort of Mahomes throws with the sidearm shit and off-platform looks.

He looked for all the world like someone who didn't appreciate how difficult it is to do any of that.

And again, I think he believes he's working hard. I just don't think there's anybody in that entire organization to point out to him where his effort should be going and how to direct that energy.

You have to be out of your mind to go to the coach and seriously ask them to switch from the rookie QB who was picked first overall, in a season where it won't remotely matter because the playoffs are already off the table.

I get that it points to Caleb not doing well, not being liked, etc. But come on, If I'm the coach I would laugh somebody out of the room if they brought me that nonsense.

RIP Caleb's career

Shiver Me Timbers 11-14-2024 12:38 PM

I watched him occasionally while he was in college. He held the ball way too long trying to figure where to throw the ball because he cannot read defenses. He is doing that as a Pro. It goes to his intelligence or lack there of. To top that off he is an arrogant prick.
I laughed when the Bears drafted him over Daniels.

I flip around to different NFL games on Sunday. I swear every time I turn on a Bears game that kid is on his back. Either getting sacked or right after he throws a incomplete pass.
