I’m not really sure the value checks there

Pat's career could be ended with a single injury.

Having a good OL should be a high priority. Even higher as Mahomes ages.

Here’s what we’re prepared to offer. If that doesn’t work let’s start calling to see who will offer what

"Cool - I'm sure we can make the numbers work. But talk to us again after Williams, etc... sign"

{Williams, etc... sign}

"Oh...yeah, we're gonna need $30 million..."

Again - there's just not much you can do if someone's operating in bad faith.

Because that's the only explanation that makes sense to me other than Veach knowing all this back in March and simply calling Jones bluff. Which isn't impossible but I'd still guess that we'd have heard SOMETHING regarding a potential Jones trade in that case.

Yep. And let's be honest, the way we're going, we're going to have these same discussions with them.

HOW DARE CREED TRY TO BE THE HIGHEST PAID CENTER IN THE GAME!! DOES HE NOT CARE ABOUT HIS LEGACY?

We paid Chris Jones his 2nd contract which made him the 2nd highest paid DT behind Aaron Donald. Creed will get one too.

The highest paid C is Jason Kelce. He gets $14.25 APY. Thats less than half of what Chris Jones apparently wants.

A 25 year old top 2 C only getting maybe $15 million APY? Yeah sign him yesterday

What's more valuable?

A. A haul of draft picks in 2023.

B. A slightly lesser haul of draft picks in 2024 and one last year of elite DT play?

You'd also gain cap space and remove the shenanigans that wants to sit out 8 games or more!

Those two keeping Mahomes upright is an essential piece IMO

I’m going with B/ because I think each year you have Mahomes and an aging Kelce playing at this level you err on that side of things.

I don’t think we’re winning a Super Bowl without Chris Jones on the team this season. In the future? Certainly possible Because Mahomes. But it would be a huge gap to fill this year and we don’t have the wide margin of error many here seem to feel we do.

No idea why Carlos Dunlap isn't here right now. He was a nice role player and will be needed with Omenihu out.

Maybe they think Kaindoh or Herring is gonna break out? Idk

Is a 31 yr old. DT on the downside of his career more valuable than those 2…?

Why do you keep making it sound like the Chiefs don't want to sign Jones?

Is it at all possible that maybe Jones is being unreasonable and asking the Chiefs to leverage their future for another year (MAYBE two) of elite DT play?

I think the team must be thinking so.

The d-line without Jones or Omenihu to start the season is not ideal.

Unless Jones and his agents are operating in some bad faith or changed their asks, the two scenarios that are possible are:

1) Veach and co. knew what Jones wanted and decided they'd rather have whatever they can get from Jones for this year and trade returns after this year (unlikely, IMO, considering the way they approached restructures and cap space. They pretty clearly were counting on creating some on the Jones extension).

2) Veach and co. just completely ****ed up

Most likely scenario is that Jones and his agents have changed their story and are acting in some bad faith.

Yes, I wish I knew what the numbers were for sure.
