Has everyone forgot we managed to spend in the top 5 every year on players until the 90's strike. The money is there. KC is spending shitloads on the the team. It can happen.

They simply can't afford it. He's going to be a $125-150M player. They can't spend that kind of money on one guy, especially a pitcher who could easily be lost for a season+ with an injury (i.e. Vargas). They'll already have to make a big $ decision on Gordon, and there's more to come the following year with Hos, Cain and Moose.

The Glass family could afford it, if they were willing to go into the red. They won't "afford" it though.

It's every bit the shithole IRL that it is to fairness. Guys just hammer line drives off that ****ing monstrosity and Shane Victorino hits a Texas Leaguer into the Monster seats.

FWIW, I actually agree with you and said the same thing when he got demoted, but everyone has suddenly changed tune when he's still the same guy he was six days ago when he was persona non grata.

I think he got send down because it was the easy move because he has options unlike the other starters and bullpen guys on the roster. Worked out okay.

Where is this certainty that Ventura has it all figured out coming from? What did his 36 hours in Omaha bestow upon him?

I think he's getting a bump from having thrown today, on the day that a lot of other good news popped up from the Royals.

Today was an encouraging step forward for Ventura. He needs to build on it and be consistent.

The biggest difference for him today was working ahead in a lot more counts. He's been falling behind a lot more often this season than he did last year, which leads to him throwing more fastballs in hitters counts, which leads to more hard contact and more contact overall, and worse results.

Ewing Kauffman was also one of the wealthiest owners in all of MLB, who really didn't give a shit about spending money. Big difference.

You forgot 2014, which should be between 2002 and 2000, IMO.

I think 2013 might be better than the '05 team.

I did forget 2014.

2005 was better, IMO. 2005 Carpenter was the best pitcher in the league, better than Waino. Pujols and Edmonds were both better than any of our position players and the offense didn't rely on a fluky RISP average, which has not, and will not, be repeated.

Then why did you lose 4/6 games to us. We didn't play well at all in those games.

Best record in baseball. Best record in inter league play. One of only 3 NL teams with a winning record against AL teams. Where are you getting your facts to base your opinion that we wouldn't even make the playoffs in the AL?

Here's some advice on dealing with PB. Ignore him.

And there's a huge, huge difference between a $15 million payroll and $150 million. I don't think we'd have a $150 million payroll if Ewing Kauffman owned the team.

Ortiz just hit another one. 7 RBI tonight. Now 11-1 Red Sox over the Tigers.

Ortiz blasts another one. 7 RBI's for Ortiz tonight.

Oh, it's 11-1 Red Sox over Detroit.

Chiefs Pantalones 07-26-2015 08:52 PM

11-1 Sox beating Tigers.

You could put Scott Rolen in that category, too. At least in 2004.

2005 was the year he tried to play through the torn labrum in his left shoulder, right? I still remember watching him try to swing with that and just collapse in pain...

I'd take the '05 offense over the '13 offense, but I might be inclined to take the '13 pitching staff. I still have no clue why Shelby only pitched one inning in the POs. And Wacha was insane.
