Ranys latest...long but heres a highlight:

Everyone obsesses about the Super-Two Deadline, but the more important deadline has already passed. Every one of the Royals’ vaunted prospects who are in the minors today are now guaranteed to be under club control through 2017. If Montgomery were called up tomorrow, the Royals would get almost seven full seasons out of him. He might get arbitration a year early, and in a best/worst case scenario that could cost the Royals more than $10 million. (That’s what it cost the Giants when Tim Lincecum qualified for arbitration prior to the 2010 season – after he had just won back-to-back Cy Young Awards.)

But if the Royals maintain their hot start, and the front office decides to go for it, and they deem Montgomery or Moustakas or any of a half-dozen other guys are ready…they shouldn’t hold back. If the future is now, then The Future Is Now.

Danny Clinkscale must have been reading the game thread last night. He was searching for a mediocre pitcher from the recent past, and Mac Suzuki was the first name that came to mind.

I'm going to show this article to my grandmother in hopes that it will calm her down. She's obsessed with the Super Two Deadline. Don't even get me started on her infatuation with the upcoming rule change for kickoffs in the NFL.

I think its a bit inaccurate for Rany to say they obsess over the Super-Two deadline. More like a lot of people obsess over that deadline because they incorrectly think its the point when they get an extra year out of the prospect. It isn't, that deadline is around 2-3 weeks into the season. The Super Two deadline is merely about a little extra money in the 3rd year.

Kanekoa Texeira - R - Royals

Royals optioned RHP Kanekoa Texeira to Triple-A Omaha
.
Texeira was cleared to make room for Louis Coleman on the active roster. The 25-year-old right-hander had a superficially impressive 2.84 ERA over his first six appearances this season, but also gave up 13 hits and two walks while striking out none.

Louis Coleman - S - Royals

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Louis Coleman from Triple-A Omaha.

Yet another intriguing young arm has joined the Royals' bullpen. Coleman, 25, has a 2.16 ERA over 62 relief appearances in the minor leagues, averaging 10.5 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9. He profiles as a future set-up man.

I'm excited to see this guy. Last I checked he had 16 strikeouts in 7 innings this season.

sweet, updated.

There's another thing to keep in mind: our 40-man roster has had 39 on it for a while. We've kept a spot open for 3 weeks for Jason Kendall to return.

So, if you are optimistic, you could perhaps speculate that Jason Kendall is done.

My first reaction was that's pretty old for a rookie. But he was drafted at 23, so that's not his fault. What can you do?

That'd be great news.

In other baseball news, today Bud Selig all but declared that we'll definitely have 10-team playoffs in 2012. MLB will still have the fewest % of teams in the playoffs of any major sport.

Each league gets a second wild card, and the two wild cards will play either a 3-game or a 1-game playoff.

I like it, I've never been one of those guys shaking their fist at more playoff teams, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Also, this would make winning the division a little more important, since the division winners would basically all get a bye.

Im all for it. Gives the little guys a better chance to sneak in the playoffs and knock of the bastard Yankees/Phillies/Red Sox types. Also this will make pitching and defense all the more important in a short series when bats (ie Rangers) can go cold. Something the Royals should have a lot of the next decade.

'HAD A DIP WITH ALCOHOL'
FORMER ROYAL BRIAN MCRAE GETS THIRD DUI
Former Kansas City Royal outfielder Brian McRae, 43, was arrested for DUI for the third time Thursday morning on I-435 in Overland Park, KS, around 3 a.m.
According to Justin Kendall at The Pitch, McRae, a part owner of Kanas City radio sports talk station WHB-810, McRae tried to explain what happened via a Tweet today:
"Made a Bad Choice of Speeding 88 in a 65 and having a dip with alcohol (Kahlua) mixed in. I didn't blow and was charged with DUI."
Kendall noted, "Not sure that's helping his case."
A local attorney agrees.
"If I were his attorney and he Tweeted that I would want to choke the living shit out of him," was the way one local attorney responded when told of the Tweet. "He admitted he had alcohol which doesn't help his case."
McRae was convicted of DUI in 1994, but cleared of a second DUI charge in 2004, according to the Kansas City Star.
He played for the Royals from 1990 to 1994 and four other teams until retiring in 1999.
WHB has not discussed his arrest on the air today.

Didn't realize Brian had a major thing for the sauce
