I'm not sure whether you attended MU or not, but if you attend one of the schools and care about sports at all and actually make roadtrips to Columbia/Lawrence, the hatred stays forever. What other schools' fans do you see throw batteries at the opposing school's fans? What about empty bottles at the marching band. I just don't think you understand what kind of shit goes on at either school when it comes to KU vs MU.

I have a PhD from MU. I taught and researched at MU. My sister went to KU and her family lived there for 10 years. One of my best friends received his pharmacy degree at KU. I get the rivalry. I also understand that if KU stunk at everything for a fairly significant number of years, that rivalry would lose a lot of its luster.

I've heard back from 5 ACC & Big East Athletic Directors... Dick Baddour, RC Johnson, Ed Pastilong, Ron Wellman and Mitch Barnhart of Kentucky.

I sincerely doubt that KU will be left out in the cold. KSU, not so sure.

IMO, I'd love see this:

ACC East

Duke
UNC
Maryland
NC State
Boston College
Wake Forest
Virginia
Virginia Tech

ACC West

Memphis
Louisville
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
UConn
Kentucky
Kansas
Kansas State

and so I emailed each Athletic director... and chancellor.

Bernadette Gray-Little got back to me as well, yesterday saying that KU is committed to making the Big 12 work... which really isn't something KU has power over, IMO.

I think when the dust settles everything will be ok. Right now speculation is running rampant.

You don't get what a rivalry is, then.

I can see both sides of this, and it really comes down to personal perspective.

Using the Chiefs as an example, I know a lot of people that still consider Chiefs/Raiders a huge rivalry.

I don't share that opinion, because Oakland has sucked for a decade and we have for close to a half-decade.

Cards-Cubs doesn't have the same luster when both are out of the race - though that hasn't happened in a while.

Rivalries like these will always exist, but are fluid, IMO. Some years it's just going to be more intense than others.

How has our Raiders rivalry been lately?

Edit: Wow, great minds and whatnot.

MU fans have little brother syndrome when it comes to KU and athletics.

kepp 06-08-2010 02:07 PM

ESPN Gameday live reporting that NU and MU havebeen invited to join the Big 10, N. Dame not interested in going anywhere, and the Pac 10 is sending out invites this weekend.

And, no, I can't find any links from ESPN or anyone else.

That could be the case. It's just nice to see that the little brother could be the one that ends up shining the brightest in the end.

I'm sorry, but professional sports rivalries are a little different. MU vs KU hatred gets passed on from student to student every year, no matter how good or bad the respective teams are doing. This is the reason the only game that sells out Mizzou Arena every year is when KU rolls into town. Same thing at KU, the students don't get up for any other game like they do for the KU vs MU one. That's just how it is.

Your analogies are pretty weak, fellas.
