"Embiid not only limped off the court after the contest to the locker room, but trudged slowly to the team bus out of the arena. Some tears fell down his face as he was consoled by a parent of one of KU’s players."

Embiid needs to sit until the big dance. That's the next goal. Most important of all of them too obviously.

I'd have to look up the data but I'd bet anything we turned it over more the past decade than any other top 10 team. Leads the conf again this year. Elijah's meltdown last year vs Michigan, on and on. It's not going to be a very long run in march if you throw it away constantly. Why is this always a problem?

Stab in the dark, not the sole reason, but a contributing factor:

How many great PG's have we gotten in recruiting? Not very many by my count. Sherron being the obvious one... He brought in 2 the last 2 years, but both of them are not highly regarding players coming out of HS. Tharpe and Mason were both nobodies before being snatched up by KU. Both have serious flaws here at KU that are evident when they're on the court.

All his other guards (Robinson, Chalmers, Taylor, Frankamp, Johnson, Selden, McLemore, Selby, Releford, Reed, Morningstar ) are "combo" guards if not outright wings... For some reason he's stayed away from the elite "Point guards"... or been unable to land them. (Again, Sherron being the exception)....

Sure, there have been a few kids that have developed decent enough passing and handles to get us by.. like Tyshawn, Robinson, and Chalmers.. But those guys had to develop the ball-handling over time... Robinson and Taylor were both Horrid as youngsters... Mario was more a SG, while a decent passer didn't have the handles of a PG... again, another Combo.

To recap. Having one real PG in Eleven years at KU with great handles\passing could be a contributing factor.

If Self's "consistent problem" is turnovers (totally the coach's fault btw) leading to short tournament runs, then why has KU made the sweet 16 6 out of 7 years (including 4 elite 8s), 2 finals fours, and a title?

I don't think it's a big enough problem to not be overcome, but it is a trend at times... KU has had issues with ball-handling from time to time (last night as my standing evidence) :)

Regarding Tharpe... holy living shit, that guy is a bonehead at times... like.. I literally picture this guy in the Locker-room getting dressed.

I picture Tharpe smoking weed before the game last night.

To Zeke's point, we have had a hole at PG nearly every year Self has been here and it's really hard to understand. I'd say Russell Robinson was a very good true PG actually rather than a combo, he had a 3-1 career A/TO margin and almost never did anything dumb. Couldn't shoot, but did everything else well. If we had him on this team I bet we'd go farther in March. You don't have to have Kyrie Irving out there, but JFC the turnovers happen every year.

We aren't going anywhere in March this year, that's my prediction. Hope I'm wrong. I doubt we make it further than we did last year, and for the same exact reasons. (If you recall we tried to throw away the 1st round 16vs1 game vs Western Kentucky at the end too. True story)

The thing I don't understand is Tharpe has played really well for a better half of the season. Just lately he's become lackadaisical -- and just not into it. I'm afraid it might remain the same way the rest of the year.

That being said, I really like what Mason has shown this year and I am looking forward to his tenure as a Jayhawk.

I don't mind this loss at all to be honest. Now we have Texas Tech and West Virginia as warmups leading into the conference tourney. I did not want KU to have to play #8 Oklahoma State with their first game of the Big 12 when OSU is fighting just to make the tournament. Especially after the wife and I dropped a few hundred dollars on tournament tickets.

#2-5 - Four 10-6 teams, and we should expect to play one of these teams Friday and one in the Championship

#6 West Virginia 8-8 (Oklahoma & Kansas left)
#7 Baylor 7-9 (Iowa State, Kansas State)
#8 Oklahoma State 7-9 (K-State, Iowa State)
#9 Texas Tech 5-11
#10 TCU

I guess it's interesting K-State and Iowa State play both the teams fighting to not have to play on the first day. I wouldn't be surprised to see West Virginia drop their last two, and give Baylor or Oklahoma State an opportunity to leap frog them. With KU playing the 8/9 winner, I'd just prefer to see anyone other than OSU with our first game.

So, was big Cliff one of the academically ineligible ball players for Curie?
