Yep, people say Kansas should have won in '97 because they were the best team in the country. Well, they weren't the best team in the country in '88, but I don't see Danny Manning shipping his ring to Paul Pierce any time soon.

In 70 years of basketball, FIVE schools have more than 2 championships.

Yep. You dont necessarily care if you are the best team, because 1) halfway through the year, we can pretty much eliminate everyone but 3 or 4 teams from being "the best", and 2) they dont hand out banners to the team that shows itself to be the best by objective measurement and popular opinion.

Part of the fun is to overcome all odds and be crowned champion in spite of not being the best. To be the David that toppled the Goliath. The Giants sure as hell were NOT the best team in the NFL last year by a long-shot, but I bet their fans dont care, because they beat the best on the "any given sunday" and have the trophy.

KU has shut it down a little too early from my perspective, but I do believe the game is in the bag.

Noooo, I'm not saying they SHOULD have one. I'm just saying they were better than the '88 team. Nobody deserves to win. If you win the games, my hat goes off to you. You deserved it. Doesn't make you the best team necessarily, but it does make you the undisputed champions...unlike in college foozball

We can agree to disagree, regular season is nice (see Chiefs records during late 80's/early 90's) but championships define a team.

88 was better - I think the 2008 team can be the next one.

Therfore, in my opinion, the 08 team is better than the ones you stated.

No one outside the conference remebers the conference champion.

By your definition, the 2008 is not better. At least not yet. They haven't won anything yet.

I disagree - KU won the championship - ergo they are the best team.

If they decide to change they format of the tournament then the debate can change.

For now, the team that wins the tournament is the best team in the country.

Hopefully we can agree that we want KU to win this year.

I doubt you paid much attention while you grew up a Jayhawk fan. That '88 NC was a total miracle. OU had beaten us twice before we beat them in the NC game. We certainly can agree to disagree. Go to KUSports.com and spew your shit and you will get pummeled.

Damn I hate it when teams foul when the game is all but over.

And they have found a way to talk about Duke at the end of this game.

I didn't say this team was better than the 88 team. I said it was the best team since.

I think they will advance past the 16, past the 8 and past the 4.

Time will tell.

BTW - they will advance past the 16 based on the score right now

Memphis is getting their asses handed to them in the second half.

Braincase 03-28-2008 09:57 PM

Hey, Roy,

Before you hang it up tonight, go ahead and launch the KU/Davidson game thread, will ya?

alnorth 03-28-2008 09:57 PM

I'm too lazy to check. Have we had a year since 1985 where all 4 #1 seeds made it through?

Go back to your room in the old folks home.

Alzheimers is a bitch.

I don't care what the regular season was - they won the championship.

Best team in the nation that year.

If Davidson wins this year - they deserve the title.

God I hate old, bitter fuckers like you

It has never happened since we went to the 64 team field.
